The tour des Anglais in Pénerf of Damgan !!!

This is a dandy nice coastal town and wonderful beaches in my beautiful Morbihan. I came up with new pictures from my cd rom vaults that should be in my blog for you and me, This is  lovely Damgan!  And one that is not to be missed is the Pénerf peninsula, Therefore, let me tell you on the tour des Anglais in Pénerf of Damgan !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

At Pointe du Lenn , facing the ocean, stands the Tour des Anglais. At 15 meters, it has been welcoming boats at the entrance to the Pénerf river and has been doing so for some 5 centuries. It is also the only fire tower, ancestor of the lighthouse, preserved on the Atlantic coast! The tower was both a watchtower and a beacon: it signaled the entrance to the Pénerf River and made it possible to watch for the arrival of enemy privateers: ships from Jersey island, Spain and England. Its current name only appears after 1902; before that, it was called the Tour Blanche or White Tower and then theTour de Pénerf or Pénerf Tower. It is a structure probably built at the beginning of the 16C, in any case attested in 1692. Both a fire tower and a watchtower, it was part of a military complex until the beginning of the 19C. It is probably the oldest existing fire tower in its original architecture on the French Atlantic coast. It is a cylindrical tower 15 meters high on a truncated base approximately 8.20 meters in diameter at the base and 1.70 meters high, a truncated cone base 3.80 meters high and a three-level upper part 9.20 meters high. The one-meter-thick walls with a one-meter-high parapet supported by granite corbels rests on console machicolations. The tower, located about a hundred meters from the shore, is one of the rare vestiges of coastal defense in the region. The town of Damgan owns it.

Following along the littoral on the D140 you bypass the plage du Bil and the plage du Govet beaches and continue with the rue du Treutan you reach the secluded plage du Pénerf and a great view of the Tour des Anglais.
