This is a small town , that I have passed by it in my road warrior runs, I found some interesting pictures in my cd rom vault of an off the beaten path monument worth the detour, me think, Therefore, let me tell you of this is La Vraie Croix !!!Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The village of La Vraie-Croix is located in my beautiful Morbihan department no 56, in my lovely region of Bretagne, and in my belle France. The town is 8 km from Elven, 8 km from Questembert , 3 km from Sulniac , 20 km from Vannes, and 48 km from my current home,
The name La Vraie-Croix comes from a Knight Hospitaller of the Order of Saint John of Jerusalem who, returning from a crusade, brought back a piece of the Cross of Christ. During this journey, he stopped in the village. The next day, as he left, he realized that his piece of the cross had disappeared. Very unhappy, he left again. The piece of the cross was found in a magpie’s nest high in a hawthorn tree. The locals took it, but the next day, the piece was back in the magpie’s nest. They saw this as a sign and decided to build a chapel on the site of the tree to house the relic. The village was until 1852, the year it became a parish, a truce of Sulniac. In 1870, it became a village.
The Chapelle de la Vraie Croix or Chapel of the True Cross dated from the 13C and was rebuilt in 1611, with only an original portal remaining. The rest of the chapel dates from the 17C. According to legend, it was built on the site where a relic of the True Cross, brought back from the Holy Land by a Breton crusader, was stolen by a magpie and hidden high up in a hawthorn tree. This chapel is built on two floors above a vault, supported by two pointed arches, which allows the paved road to cross it from north to south. The road passes under the transept of the upper chapel. Under the vault, a five-recessed ogival doorway, which appears to date from the end of the 13C, through which it was possible to ascend to the upper chapel. It is now accessed by an external stone staircase. This rectangular chapel is a 17C reconstruction. The purpose of this chapel is to house the reliquary of the True Cross. Adorned with engravings and nine precious stones, the reliquary made of copper on gilded wood is in the shape of a double-armed cross; it dates from the 17C. The relic is protected inside a medallion.

Other things to see here are the Church Saint-Isidore built between 1891 and 1892, on the initiative of Father Tanguy, in place of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church which dated from 1501 and 1691. The Louis house, the oldest house in the village, adjoining the Saint-Isidore Church, having belonged to the Templars, The castle of Toulhouët (or Toulouët, Toulhoët, Toulgoët), 17-18C.
