A wonderful area of my eternal Paris and former working neighborhood. This is a beautiful theater worth the detour me think, The fact the area is romantic and quant, and the shows are of historical significance in a historical building and of course ,Paris makes all worth it. I have found me a picture in my cd rom vault and should be in my blog for you and me. Therefore, here is my take on the Athénée Théâtre Louis-Jouvet of Paris !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The Athénée Théâtre Louis-Jouvet entrance is on the Square de l’Opera-Louis-Jouvet, in the 9éme arrondissement of Paris. This wonderful theater with elegance the Rococo and Art Nouveau styles, the intimate and the perfect acoustic charm of this Italian room edified in 1893, .I came once several years back and finally got me a picture to show ! It is composed as follows the welcome lobby hall in the ground floor (1fl) are the ticket office and control room, The salle Louis-Jouvet with elegance the Rococo and Art Nouveau styles, the intimate and the perfect acoustic charm of this Italian room edified in 1893 made it one of the jewels of eclectic architecture at the end of the 19C, The Salle Christian-Bérard ,a very intimate room with frescoes in trompe l’oeil is nestled under the attic of the theater. It bears the name of Louis-Jouvet’s decorator. The Christian-Bérard room is located on the 4th floor and only accessible by a staircase. The Athénée bar-restaurant welcomes you at the theater an hour before and an hour after each performance of the Great Hall. Adjoining the large room, it is located at the basket (1st floor). The canopy of the facade gives it great brightness. It overlooks a balcony open to the Square de l’Opéra Louis-Jouvet, The Foyer-Mezzanine at the level of the balcony (2nd floor), it is open on the home house and the overhang of its balustrade.

This is a wonderful area of my eternal Paris very near my working neighborhood of Opéra Garnier, You can come here on Métro Opéra : lines 3, 7, and 8 ; Métro Havre-Caumartin : lines 3 and 9 ; Métro Saint-Lazare : lines : 12, 13, and 14, As well as RER A : Auber, and RER E : Haussmann / Saint-Lazare, Plenty of parking best is the parking Vinci Edouard VII that gives access to the pedestrian square of the theater, Also, good ones nearby are the parkings l’Olympia, Indigo Haussmann-Galerie Lafayette, and Indigo de la Madeleine. Of course, for my memories of always I came walking from the Inter Le Grand Hotel on rue Scribe left to Rue Auber left on Rue Boudreau , and left to Square de l’Opéra Louis-Jouvet and theater ! Lovely walk indeed.
A bit of history on this wonderful theater tell us that at the beginning it was the Eden-Théâtre, a mythical place, a colossal building built on rue Boudreau in the early 1880s according to a naive aesthetic of Hindu temple, a bazaar of a thousand and one nights both magical and exotic, prodigy of originality , magnificence and comfortable. Fabulous place, impossible theater-Eden does not last as was several times closed, transformed, renamed a Grand-Théâtre, the Eden ends up disappearing. The current Athénée, whose room was set up in 1893 in one of the Eden households, opens to the public, the same year, under the name of Comédie Parisienne. The final inauguration of the place under the name of Athénée took place in 1896. Year on the pediment of the theater. It was also in 1896 that the last great transformation of the theater occurred: the postponement of the facade of rue Boudreau on the Square de l’Opera, which in a way became the first vestibule of the theater about a century after the development of the Athénée on the site of a lost paradise, still there are a few traces above the dome of the room: a ceiling decorated with Indian, red, black and brown patterns, last incongruous and moving vestiges of the ‘Eden-theater. The innovative and eclectic direction of Pierre Bergé, between 1977 and 1981, saw the opening, under the attic of the Athenaeum, of a small room baptized by the name of Christian Bérard and devoted mainly to the test theater. With Musical Mondays, he gave to hear the most beautiful lyric voices of our time , Patrice Martinet rehabilitates the theater from 1993 to 2021, both the building and its repertoire. The Athénée asserts itself as a Italian public theater with the 20C for repertoire, looking at its heritage with the modern and contemporary spirit of an artistic laboratory: the Athénée becomes a modern theater. It still has one of the most beautiful Italian rooms in Paris. In 2021, Olivier Poubelle, Olivier Mantei and Bernard Le Masson became the owners of the theater while respecting the laborantin spirit of the place, the theater now gave pride of place to strong artistic meetings and creation, in a desire to open a large audience.
The figure of Louis Jouvet who led this theater from 1934 to 1951, the date of his death, deeply marked a place which pays tribute to him by giving it his name. This great popular actor, darling of cinema, was above all a man of theater. Guy de Maupassant alludes to the room in novels Notre cœur (our hearts) ,and Fort comme la mort, (strong as death) and the new L’Héritage.
