Curiosities of Saint Pierre Quiberon !!!

I am again finding older pictures in my cd rom vault and they should be in my blog for you and me, I am taking you back to Saint Pierre de Quiberon in my beautiful Morbihan dept 56 of my lovely Bretagne in my belle France. This town I go several times a year and we love the peninsula, as part of the wonderful Presqu’ïle de Quiberon peninsula, heavens on the beach/coast side and only 40 minutes from my house. Let me tell you on curiosities of Saint Pierre Quiberon !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Saint-Pierre-Quiberon constitutes the northern part of the Quiberon peninsula, the town of Quiberon occupying the southern part. In between, you pass the isthmus of Penthièvre that is sort of a village forming the entrance to the Quiberon peninsula , Driving along the road D768 , strange road that goes up passing thru my current home, Ongoing, see the historic Fort of Penthiévre, still a military installation , and a sad site of firing squads assassination during the Nazi occupation. The Fort of Penthièvre is a fortified structure it commands access to the level of the isthmus at its narrowest point.  You have parking across the road D768 on the Isthme, and the Plage de Penthiévre beach on the fort side, Very beautiful beach with, with at low tide , sandy and a yachting school Always very nice to see!

A bit of history tell us that following the siege of Lorient and the looting of the Quiberon peninsula in 1746, the construction of a new defensive structure was decided in 1747 as part of a more general framework for strengthening the defenses of the southern Brittany coast. This effort was undertaken by the governor of Brittany at the time, Louis Jean Marie de Bourbon, Duke of Penthièvre, who will give it his name . The Fort of Penthièvre was built on an escarpment called La Palice at narrowest spot on the peninsula.

The plage de Penthièvre beach is the first beach on the Quiberon peninsula, which makes it the largest beach on the peninsula (several km of white sand). It is bordered by dunes or cliffs. This beach has a lifeguard station in summer. You can practice sand yachting, kitesurfing and surfing. Be careful, we are on the west coast, the ocean can be rough (the east side is more protected). No dogs allowed,
