Curiosities of Larmor Plage ,part III !!

The town of Larmor-Plageis located on the entrance to the harbor of Lorient which marks the confluence of the Blavet and Scorff rivers, it faces the island of Groix and the Atlantic Ocean. The territory of the town extends inside the harbor of Lorient, allowing a view on the peninsula of Gâvres, the Citadel of Port-Louis and Lorient (see posts). I have done my road warrior tour of the coastal Morbihan coming to the town of Larmor Plage. Let me tell you a bit more on curiosities of Larmor Plage, part III !!! Hope you enjoy this post as I

One of the wonderful things to see here is the Church Notre-Dame de Larmor, (see posts) an ancient chapel of pilgrimage Notre-Dame de L’Armor, built before the creation of the town of Larmor-Plage, on the parish of Ploemeur. The church is built on a promontory near the shore which it’s situation facing the inclement weather imposes regular restorations. There are significant architectural elements of the 14C, 16C and 17C.

The view from Port Maria beach is awesome looking across to the Fort of Port Louis and its beach, Grande Plage! (see posts)  The Plage de Port-Maria in Larmor Plage is the favorite of the locals bordered by a wonderful promenade de Port Maria, a humming place for all with several restaurants, and bars just by the water’s edge.

The very nice architecturally and historicall villas of Kernével in Larmor Plage, This set of three resorts was built at the end of the 19C; aka Château des Sardines in connection with Augustin Ouizille, Lorient banker, industrialist and sardinier curator in Kernével. Today a wooden walkway allows pedestrians to go from the median from the old port to that of the marina along the walls of the three villas.

The Maison or Villa Kerlilon, (left on pic) ,rue des Châteaux, le Kernevel This villa was built in 1899 or in 1901, and was then the most important in the Kernevel district and owes its name to the daughter of the sponsor, Liliane Marie, Villa Kerlilon as a vacation house, until it was requisitioned by the nazis in 1940. The Navy transmissions center in Lorient remains there until it downgrade and its transfer in 1983 to the Hôtel Gabriel . The Villa Kerlilon is now the residence of the Comar, the command of Marine, The central part, with around twenty rooms including ten bedrooms, on three floors, It was chosen by Admiral Dönitz to house his home and HQ. The commander-in-chief of the fleet of nazis submarines, the U-Boote understood the strategic position of the premises for control of the Atlantic coast. Opposite, Port of Keroman, he built the largest German base of submarines from January 1941. We can now visit, during heritage days, the Dönitz bunker and Villa Kerlilon, a property with Villa Kerozen of the French Navy,

The Maison or Villa Margaret, rue Marine, le Kernevel, This is a beautiful home of neo-Louis XIII style. Surrelevated, it consists of three elements: a central body of two floors, including a attic, of square basic and two square bases attached to the east. The sea view is privileged with large openings, a terrace where the entrance is made, openings at the roof at the Mansart style with balustrades giving the illusion that they benefit from a small balcony. The North Tower also looks towards the port, with a more advanced ground floor which allows the constitution of a terrace on the first floor, large bay windows and a shab on. On the other hand, the southern tower, oriented on the garden, does not have chimney stump or skylight. The towers have cornices with modillons, two high and fine chimney strains are emerging from the deer roofs. The Villa Margaret is the most western of the three villas which overlook the port and which was aka Château des Sardines , It was the second villa built, in 1896, The Villa Margaret was requisitioned by the nazis in 1940. It serves as a center transmissions during WWII. Without utility for national defense after the war, the navy resilled its rental lease in 1956 and gave the villa back to the Mertian family, a direct heiress. The villa was sold in 1959 at the Morbihan family allocations fund and served as a center for summer camps until 1987. In 1988, the Sivom (Multiple Intercommunal Syndicate) of Cap Lorient the bought it , and Installed the harbormaster of the marina. The villa is today occupied by the Le Margaret bar, whose attendance is made in connection with the marina.
