The Chapelle de Sainte-Noyale of Noyal-Pontivy !!!

There is so much around here to tell about the wonders of my beautiful Morbihan, and just found me an older picture in my cd rom vault which needs to be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, let me tell you a bit on the Chapelle de Sainte-Noyale of Noyal-Pontivy !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Noyal-Pontivy is located in my beautiful Morbihan department 56, in my lovely region of Bretagne and in my belle France. The RD 768,(passes also by my house) is a road express, especially convenient for its section going from Pontivy to Loudéac, crosses part of the town, which is mainly served by the Saint-Niel interchange, which via the RD 2, serves the agglomeration of Noyal-Pontivy,

The
Chapelle de Sainte-Noyale Chapel from the 15-16C,built in Gothic style, with its 12 golden bells 18C, the paneling painted, which date from the 17C, illustrate the life of martyrdom of Sainte Noyale. Its sacristy dates from 1719 as indicated by the long dedication which is on his southern wall. Her pardon or forgiveness takes place on the last Sunday in June ,The Sainte-Noyale Chapel was built from 1423 on the site of the old parish church which was the center of the parish until the 15C. This chapel was flanked by a massive tower surmounted by a slate arrow and its twelve golden bells is unique throughout Brittany.

Outside the chapel, just next to an oratory dedicated to Saint-John the Baptist, still receives the faithful during the outdoor celebrations as Sainte Noyale is known to cure headaches. The oratory was built in the first half of the 15C. In front of the oratory, there is a small calvary, It is quite simple and consists of a slightly leaning barrel placed on a square base at the top of three steps. We see at the top: a crucifixion, and a Virgin and Child. The date of its construction is known by an inscription 1424, On the other side of the road, an imposing calvary with three wooden crosses dating from 1871 and restored in 1947 found in 2007, its Christ on the cross and his two thumbs. Outside, south of the chapel, a Gothic fountain has retained its statue of Sainte Noyale. Its waters enjoy, in the eyes of pilgrims, many healing properties. Not far away, in the space of greenery, an arranged and wooded lavoir or washhouse.

Other things to see in town are the Parish Church of Sainte-Noyale, a church of the 15C; Its tower contains 4 bells blessed in 1887. The church has furniture consisting in particular of a levrin with a statue of a liturgical eagle, a polychrome pedest And, outside, the southern Renaissance porch and a sundial. The Petite Sainte-Noyale Chapel dates from the beginning of the 18C; It is to distinguish it from the Chapelle de Sainte-Noyale and from the Parish Church of Sainte-Noyal The three fountains probably date from the 16C; According to legend, these three close fountains would correspond to sources spontaneously greeted where Sainte Noyale has shed tears when it was beheaded.

A bit of history I like tell us that from the 5C, mention was made of Noala, revealing a stand from the lower-Empire, Noyal-Pontivy could, in its time, have been a new city compared to an older habitat located in the region, the city then legitimizing its name by a legendary holy, Sainte Noyale, daughter of a prince of Great- Brittain, resulting from Breton emigration to Armorica in the 6C, The region was a forest zone called Branquily forest in which Saint Gonery came to seek refuge in the 6C ; according to the legend Sainte Noyale would also have come there, Noyal depended on the lordship of the Rohan from 1116 to 1790. In around 1798, still under the French revolution, from Pontivy to Locminé, all the young people were Chouans (rebels vs the revolution), It was said, except in Noyal-Pontivy where the royalists still had no recruit, Olivier Le Fellic, priest in the village of Kerandu part of Noyal, which was serving the Chapel of Saint-Yves in Bubry, which refused to take the oath of loyalty to the civil constitution of the clergy, was arrested in December 1794, sentenced to death by the criminal court of Morbihan on December 11, 1794 and guillotined in Lorient the same day, Until 1839, the town of Noyal-Pontivy was the largest in Brittany. Its area was 135.47 km2. In 1840, the town was dismembered for the benefit of its four truces: Gueltas, Kerfourn, Saint-Gérand and Saint-Thuriau, which were erected in the towns. The congregation of the girls of the Holy Spirit took place in Noyal-Pontivy in September 1864, to devote itself to the teaching and care of the patients. The closure occurred in February 2019,
