The appartement de la Dauphine of the Château de Versailles !!!

A wonderful subject for me as lived in the city of Versailles by the Notre Dame Church for 9+ years before moving on to the Morbihan breton. Versailles will always be in our hearts, it was our first owned home in France!  Go ahead and see the City ,but do not miss the palace/museum for anything as the Domaine of Versailles is awesome ! Let me tell you about the appartement de la Dauphine of the Château de Versailles !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The appartement de la Dauphine ; this apartment on the ground floor which overlooks the parterre du Midi was reserved for members of the royal family. Its current distribution corresponds to the time when it was inhabited by Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, the second wife of Louis de France-son of Louis XV-between 1747 and 1765. On the eve of the French revolution, it was occupied by the Dauphin , eldest son of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, and by the Duke of Harcourt, his governor.

The first anteroom of the Dauphine or eldest daughter corresponds to part of the location of a chapel which occupied the height of the ground floor and the first floor. This chapel was destroyed in 1682 and then replaced by an apartment where the duchess of Montpensier Marie Louise d’Orléans succeeded, called “La Grande Mademoiselle”, cousin of Louis XIV , the great chaplain of France , and the grand master of the king’s wardrobe. In 1712, this apartment was replaced by a guards room for the Duke of Berry, grandson of Louis XIV. On the death of this prince, on July 4, 1714, this room was part of the apartment of Marshal de Villars. In 1747, it was reduced by a third of its surface to form the first anteroom of the Dauphine. The second anteroom of the Dauphine is where the chapel had first been planned, finally fitted out in the previous room. Originally divided into four rooms, this room was part, until 1693, of the apartment of the Duchess of Montpensier. Marie Louise d’Orléans, cousin of Louis XIV, It then became the vestibule of the Grand Dauphin apartment, then of her eldest son the Duke of Bourgogne Louis de France was the grandson of Louis XIV and the father of Louis XV. An anchamber of the Duke of Berry from 1712 to 1714, it was then part of the apartment of the Marshal of Villars and finally became, in 1747, the second anteroom of the Dauphine Marie-Josèphe de Saxe , daughter of the king of Poland and mother of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X,

The dimensions of the Grand Cabinet de la Dauphine or large cabinet of the Dauphine correspond to those of the time when the room served as a room of the guards to the son of Louis XIV. Marie-Josèphe de Saxe gathered the ladies of those around her for conversation or for the game. As in the whole apartment, a new decor had been made for her, but it disappeared in the 19C on the orders of Louis-Philippe to make way for painting rooms. The large console has been kept and replaced under a mirror whose border has been returned. The Chambre de la Dauphine or bedroom, It is in this bedroom that the Dauphine Marie-Josèphe de Saxe Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, daughter of the King of Poland and mother of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X…, daughter of the king Auguste III of Poland and wife of the son of Louis XV, put into the world the three future kings of France: Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X. Nothing remains of the decor made for her in 1747, with the exception of the top of the door painted by Jean Restout jean II , French painter.

The interior cabinet of the Dauphine is a small room and the next one formed only one for a long time, which was first the anteroom of Monsieur, brother of Louis XIV, then that of the Grand Dauphin, before becoming, in 1693 , the latter’s room. It was also the Room of Régente in 1715, on the death of Louis XIV, the Duke of Orleans ensures the regency during the minority of Louis XV…, then that of the son of Louis XV Louis de France was never king but he is the father of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X…The room was divided in 1747 to form an inner cabinet for the Dauphine Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, daughter of the King of Poland and Mother of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X … and a retirement cabinet for her husband of Louis de France was never king but he is the father of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII and Charles X …: the apartments of the young couple therefore communicated with their most withdrawn pieces, which preserved, to a certain extent, their marital intimacy. The charming decor of natural woodwork in varnish remained partly; It was completed and were also able to replace the top-brings representing the four seasons that Jean-Baptiste Oudry , French painter and engraver, famous for his animal paintings … had painted for this part in 1749. Next to the niche, which once housed a sofa, glass doors gave access to a suite of small parts taking day on the interior lessons: back cabinet, oratory and bathroom.
