I take you back into Le Guerno in my beautiful Morbihan , and my lovely Bretagne as in my belle France. There is so much off the beaten path here as many come for the popular spots but Brittany has wonderful marvels to be seen, Le Guerno in my road warrior mode is about 50 minutes from home, Again, these were mix in with other posts and decided deserves a post of its own, Therefore, here is my take on the Church Saint John the Bapstist of Le Guerno !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The nicest thing to see here me think is the Church Saint John the Baptist, founded in the 12C by the order of the Hospitallers of Saint-Jean-de-Jerusalem. As they had a piece of the True-Cross it was then called Notre Dame de la Vrai Croix, In 1312, after the suppression of the order, the chapel takes the name of the Temple of Guernou, because of its attachment to the commandery of Carentoir. From the 12C Chapel, only the foundations and stones used in the construction of the current church, dating from the 15C and 16C, remain. The town of Le Guerno is a dismemberment of the old parish of Noyal-Muzillac.

In the Church Saint John the Baptist you see the baptismal fonts mentioned in 1614. We can still notice the stalls of the nave and the apse as well as the western tribune with carved panels, all from the end of the 16C. The altar was renewed in 1778. The Grotte de Lourdes, located at the southern corner of the choir, dates from around 1890, and was restored in 1927. We kept in the church a curious cross Reliquary in golden silver on wooden soul, from the 12C, the solemnities of worship attracted a great crowd formerly because the old chapel had a piece of the True-Cross and a bubble of indulgences. At the bottom of the naveon a carved wooden platform is abundantly decorated with animal, and characters. The church also houses a statue of elongated Christ lying in polychrome wood, a Christ on the cross ,and the statues of Saint Yves, Virgin and Child, Saint Joseph, Saint John- Baptist, Saint Germaine, Saint Anthony of Padua, Saint Hyacinthe, Saint Joachim, and Saint Thérèse. In the wall, a Trilobe niche houses a group of Saint Anne , the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus.

The tower was erected in 1580 and renovated in 1706. Its conical roof earned it to be called pepper tower. In a chapel built in 1682, called from the Tomb, was the Christ Lying, today in the north transept. The sacristy was built in 1920. The nave, covered with a structured vault, with wood dated 1580. The balustrade abundantly decorated. The baptismal font is located under the rostrum. The Choir semicircular apse, quite unusual in the 15C. In masonry, terracotta pots and vases for acoustics, openings facing the choir. 16C stained glass, restored in 1975. It has an amazing exterior pulpit c. 1575, granite stelae, an altar in the open air, which comes from the altar of a Roman temple, which was in Branféré and which was razed by the Templars, a Calvary which surmounts the altar and which is formed of a granite monolith 5 meters high, two beautiful tombstones, from the old cemetery of the town, moved in 1946.
