The RN 165 expressway or voie express crosses the northern part of the town, which is served by the Kénéah road interchange, which allows via the D 101E to connect the town of Plougoumelen, which is away from this major traffic route Another good portion of the town on its southern part connecting the town of Plougoumelen to Bono via the dike of the Kerlivio pond on the D101E. The road D 19, from Vannes to Sainte-Anne-d’Auray runs along the northern limit of the town, taken too. The train line from Paris to Quimper  (passing by Vannes and Auray my old stops) crosses the town in its northern part, but Plougoumelen does not have a train station, you have to go to the Auray or  Vannes station to take the train.

The Church Saint-Philibert is the current parish church dates from 1865; in the shape of a Latin cross, it is in neo-Gothic style, The church is in repairs and for worship folks go to nearby town of Le Bono. However, part of the heritage of Plougoumelen. You can see several houses on rue des Mimosas and rue des Chaumières, which are old restored farmhouses, have retained their thatched roofs.

The church is dedicated to Saint Philibert, abbot of Noirmoutier, whose imposing statue throne above the altar. The origin of the parish (Plou en Breton) dates back to the 6C where it was placed under the term of Saint Melaine, Bishop of Rennes from which the name of Plou-Melen became Plougoumelen. The double-cross is exceptional in its kind because it is monolith and sculpted. Commonly called, the cross of the bride and groom is a memorial that evokes an alliance. It is located in front of the church.

A bit of history for a small town tell us that Mathurin Derian, rector of Plougoumelen since 1767, refused to take the oath of loyalty to the Civil Constitution of the clergy; dring the French revolution, he was a refractory priest, elderly, he escape to Spain, In May 1802 Chouan officers of the Auray legion then commanded by Vincent Hervé known as “La Joie”, from Plougoumelen; and Marc Le Guénégal, who lived in the manor of Kerdréan (now in Le Bono), was a member, they embarked clandestinely, some from Kerdrec’h, then in Plougoumelen (now in Le Bono), in the Auray estaury to the Channel Islands. In 1810 Abbot Joseph Le Leuch, former Chouan, defying the authority of the Bishop of Vannes and civil laws, transformed his cottage located in the hamlet of Cahire into the chapel of the Little Church, a schismatic Catholic movement refusing the Concordat.
