The Chapelle Sainte Hélène of Surzur !!!

I was again on my road warrior trips in my beautiful Morbihan, lovely Bretagne, and belle France. I was en route to see the homeopathic doctor who treated my dear late wife Martine and walked a bit in city center Surzur to admire the nice Chapelle Sainte Hélène. Now for sentimental reasons taken a while to be back, will eventually, However, let me tell you a bit on the Chapelle Sainte Hélène of Surzur !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

Surzur is located between the Rhuys peninsula with the town of Sarzeau; the Pénerf river, with the towns of Tour-du-Parc, Damgan and Ambon; the Gulf of Morbihan with the towns of Saint-Armel, Le Hézo and Theix-Noyalo; finally, La Trinité-Surzur and Lauzach. All very nice and several posts in my blog. The town is  located 16 km from Vannes, and 52 km from my house ! I have written before on the town, but this is a new post with older pictures.

The Chapelle Sainte Hélène , 17C, located in the village of Brarun, town of Surzur. Its façade is pierced by a door in a semicircular, dating from the 17C, and surmounted by a stone steeple. It was restored between 1992 and 1995. The stained glass windows evoke the Gothic era with the use of elements of the 15C.

The Chapelle Sainte Hélène is very simple and full of charms, would have been built by crusaders. This is verifiable by Gothic elements of the 14-15C which have been used for its construction, in particular the windows. The current building dates from the 17C. The facade, facing the village, is pierced with a semicircular door and is surmounted by an elegant stone tin. It is surmounted by a small pyramid on which a cross is placed. Inside the tiles are original as are the three entraits that hold the vault. The Choir is delimited by a small balustrade. Behind is the altar recently restored with its eagle on the pediment. The two side windows (lancets) enlighten the choir. The chapel houses five beautiful plaster statues of Sainte-Hélène, the Virgin, Sainte-Marguerite, Sainte-Thérèse and Saint-Mathurin.

The Pardon or procession takes place on August 18 and continues to attract people each year, It goes through the nearby fountain, located north of the chapel, it is slightly against the road. Some steps allow you to go down there. Very pretty, it has a roof surmounted by a cross. There is a engraved ermine as well as the
Sainte Hélène inscription. Next to it is a white Virgin.

This is one of the most important saints, both Catholicism and the Orthodox Church. Born in 250 in Great Britain, she married a Roman general who gave her a son, Constantine, who became emperor of Rome in 301. Both, very pious actively participated in the evangelization of Asia. But what earned the Canonization of Sainte Hélène,was her discovery, during a political trip at the age of 80, of the relics of the real cross in Jerusalem. This gave boom to pilgrimages to Jerusalem and soothed the tensions of the time. Hélène is the patron saint of dyers, nails and needles merchants.
