I came back today to my wonderful capital City of Vannes. I notice a new store/resto opening in a popular street for us so we went to taste, The city has a gorgeous original architecture untouched by wars, one of the most beautiful harbors in the world (conde nast, great bays etc) which of course takes you into the Atlantic ocean. Let me bring you up to date on Vannes, in my beautiful Morbihan dept 56 of my lovely Bretagne and in my belle France. Therefore, here is my take on the streets of Vannes , part VI !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
Saturday,(today) February 8, 2025, the Dream Donuts franchise open in Vannes at 2 rue Joseph-Le Brix. And we were there to taste wonderful stuff !! We had the milkshake coco, pistache etc and then a box of 12 donuts from kinder bueno, country, vanille Schtroumpf , nutella, etc all good worth going back for more ! This store is one of many after Rennes, Saint-Brieuc or Nantes, the Dream Donuts franchise arrives in Vannes, It all startted in 2020, when Ilyass Aoussar opened his first Dreams Donuts store in Belgium. He wants to create a “girly place where everyone can meet to share real moments of pleasure”. The rose bonbon brand, specializing in donuts and Bubbles Teas, and today has several dozen shops across France. At the origin of this store are Clément and Guillaume Le Gal, two brothers: They have already opened the Dreams Donuts of Saint-Brieuc, and are now launching into Vannes, where their parents are from.

The Rue Thiers, formerly rue des Douves du Port planned on the embellishment plan of 1785 to rectify the layout of the old street of the Douves du Port . The construction of the Halle aux Grains is accompanied by a vast urban project which, provides for the rectification and the recovery of the streets of the port , which will become Rue Thiers, as well as the opening of rue Autissier which will connect to rue des Bons Enfants ( today rue Richemont). This street is undoubtedly the first street that comes to mind as the longest but is only 550 meters. On February 4, 1879, a prefectural decree attributed its name to Adolphe Thiers, former president of the French Republic. Some remarkable buildings here are the Maison des Trois-Piliers or house of the three pillars at 1 rue Thiers ;it was a merchant house built in the last part of the 16C. The date of 1663 worn on the right drop wall of the second floor of the neighboring house during the elevation of the wall indicates for some of the reshuffles operated on this date it would have been an inn under the old regime (monarchy). It became the official store of Rugby Club Vannes, 1st Breton club to reach the Top 14 in 2024, Also the Hôtel Limur at 31 rue Thiers (see post) acquired by the city in 1947, transferred to the State in 1980 and recovered by the City in 1991, The Hotel , retains the name of the Limur family who owned It from 1820 to 1947.It houses today, the Architecture and Heritage Interpretation Center (CIAP).

The Rue Joseph le Brix at its western part, which joins by a curve the Place Marchais (former Place du Marché) and rue Hoche,( former rue Saint-Yves), was name Rue Joseph Le Brix in 1931, Some remarkable buildings here are at nos 8, 10 was built at the end of the 19C in the gardens of the ancient ditches affected by the rampart, destroyed, on a virgin site until 1840, but built with two houses, The first was before 1897, You have the city hall municipal administrative center at 7 Rue Joseph Le Brix(the actual working city hall), Then a traveler’s hotel called the Modern Hotel, at no, 17 , The hotel was rebuilt in the 1920s, at the site of several built plots appearing on the cadastral plan of 1844 The hotel became a bookstore run by Fred Régnier, artist -painter, designer, who closed in 1974. The old cinema that has become bookstore, at no 19 in the mid-30s, And of course our Dreams Donuts at no 2, Joseph Marie Le Brix was a French sailor, pilot of maritime aviation. He was born on February 22, 1899 in Baden (Morbihan 56) and died on September 12, 1931 in Oufa, region of Urals, Russia, wanting to rally Paris to Tokyo on a non -stop flight.
