The Church Saint Jean de Montmartre of Paris !!!

I have written before on many things in Paris and sometimes I found me new things not yet in my blog that should be, This is the case lately of finding old paper pictures in my vault , and Paris is a huge part of it. I have written on many monuments of Paris ; this is another nice one to see on the off the beaten path trails of my Paris ; worth the detour, me think, Therefore, here is my take on the Church Saint-Jean de Montmartre of Paris !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Church Saint-Jean de Montmartre, also called the Saint-John the Evangelist, is located at 19, rue des Abbesses, or Place des Abbesses in the 18éme arrondissement of Paris. The church is accessible by the metro Abbesses line 12. As often, the starting point for its construction comes from the increase in the population of the district for which the Saint-Pierre Church, at the top of the Butte Montmartre, is no longer enough. The new church was characterized in particular by its armed cement structure, a pioneer of reinforced concrete. Construction work begins in 1894 but a trial was brought for non-compliance with town planning rules because of its 7 cm thick floors and its 50 cm in diameter only for a height of 25 meters the site can resume in 1902 and was completed in 1904.

Despite its originality, the Church Saint-Jean de Montmartre retains traditional elements: it is a basilica with three naves covered with armed concrete vaults whose design recalls the ribs of Gothic cathedrals. The side walls are decorated with eight large frescoes and traditional stained glass. The vaults of the transept are decorated with stained glass in Art Nouveau. The main brick facade is decorated with architectural ceramics, It has a magnificent glass roof. To the four large stained glass windows including “the crucifixion”, “the multiplication of breads” and “the adulterous woman” are added the representations of two of the four horsemen of the apocalypse of Saint John and 48 triangular stained glass representing the litanies of the Virgin, it.shed light on the lateral chapels These very worked small stained glass windows roam the whole nave and the transept. They are unique by their magnitude. The chevet back stained glass was produced in 1901 represents the crucifixion. The bronze and varnished earth sculptures decorate the master altar, also in the 1900 style. The tympanum of the church representing Saint John the Evangelist surrounded by two angels. The organ was built by Cavaillé-Coll in 1875 for the Sacré-Coeur School of La Ferrandière in Lyon. It was then transferred and went back to the Saint-Jean church in 1910.
