As said, come here often and never tired of seeing this lovely town of Auray in my beautiful Morbihan dept 56 of my lovely Bretagne, and in my belle France. The town itself is smallish and all can be done on foot, but it is full of wonderful architecture and history of three countries France, Canada ,and the USA. Just need to read my post on Auray to realise this. I have stopped by again and took my pictures for the blog, Therefore, here is my latest on curiosities of Auray, part IX !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
We , of course, needed to stop again by the wonderful covered market or Halles at the Place de la République, right next to the Hôtel de Ville where they are home to several traders who offer fresh fish and seafood all year long as well as bakery and take out foods. They are open from 15 April to 30 September on Mondays thru Saturdays from 8h to 13h30,and some do 16h to 19h. From 1st October to 14 April they are open from 8h to 13h30, They are closed on Tuesdays, It’s really our favorite there.

This is the City Hall spot and several restos we patronize over the years as well as the covered market and bakeries and well everything until we moved to Pluvigner ! (see posts), The Place de la République, formerly called “grand placître”, sometimes “place du Martray”, has been the economic and political center of Auray since the Middle Ages. Markets take place outside the halles: the wheat market, the cake market and the millet market. In the 17C, the square was entirely lined with gabled houses, the ground floor of which was sometimes rented to a merchant. They are home to well-known families at the time. At no. 48 (pharmacy today), stands the birthplace of Pierre Le Gouvello de Kériolet , famous penitent. During the French revolution, this square took the name of Place de la Liberté.

We visit La Belle Iloise store at 4, Place de la République after going so many times to the one in Vannes, this one is even closer to home, and the service was as usual sublime ! We had our usual fish soup ,tuna for spreading, rouget , breads, and canned fish all done locally as the best from our coast, This is French know-how, the pleasure of eating well for over 90 years, boxes with timeless designs, that’s all both beautiful as the Belle Île en Mer island off our coast. A family story that started in 1932 on the port of Quiberon and continues to write history.
