I like to tell you about the new small town of Bon Repos sur Blavet, but not let them fool you the best here is in the old part, this is now a combination of at least 3 towns that I visited on my last road warrior tour of my region, These town are all in the Côtes-d’ArmorDept 22 of my lovely region of Bretagne, and in my belle France. The town of Bon Repos sur Blavet is bordering my Morbihan. It brings together the old towns of Laniscat, Perret and Saint-Gelven , You go there by the N164 and D95 been 67 km from my house
The main monument to see here and it is worth the detour is the former Abbaye de Bon Repos , where you see pretty ruins of it, This abbey was founded on June 23, 1184 as a sister abbey of the Cistercian abbey of Savigny on the interested initiative of Viscount Alain III of Rohan and his wife Constance de Penthièvre, in the forest of Quénécan under the name of “Sanctae Mariae de Bona Requie” in the presence of Dom Pierre, abbot of Clairvaux, Dom Simon Abbé de Savigny and Raoul II de Fougères. In accordance with the Cistercian tradition, an abbot and 12 monks arrive from the Abbey of Savigny-le-Vieux in the English Channel, and settle in this valley to live. Alain III de Rohan donates to the Abbey of Six Villæ and two other farms, rights to take wood and graze in the forest of Quénécan, the right to build viviers, locks and mills on the Blavet, of the hill of Corlay. Constance, a granddaughter of the King of England Henri Ier Beauclerc, donated the church of Foleborne with its outbuildings in the bishopric of the province of Cantorbéry.
The crypt of the former Abbaye de Bon Repos will serve between 1196 and 1516 of burial to thirteen viscounts of the big family of Rohan (including for example Alain VII of Rohan, killed at the Battle of Mauron on August 14, 1362 and Jean II of Rohan in 1516, the last viscount buried there, as well as several of their wives. Rohan’s family, having converted to Protestantism, ceases its protection of the abbey, but the succession is taken by the family of Rohan-Guéméné, lord of Corlay, Prosperous until the 16C, the abbey then became royal in 1491 following the marriage of Anne of Brittany with Charles VIII; By decision of François Ier, it passed under the regime of the commende in 1516 (the abbots were appointed by the king, but did not reside on the spot, contenting herself with perceiving income; they entrust the management of the abbey to a prior). There are ruins of the church in the early 13C like tge southern wall of the choir and part of the southern cross where transformations of the 19C appear, and the structural work of the abbey palace and the monastic building rebuilt on the western and southern sides of the Cloister by the abbot of Saint-Geniès in the first third of the 18C. Some outbuildings are in better condition , like the 18C and the 14C farm portal. Woodwork and precious movable objects from the abbey are re -used in neighboring churches, There is now a B&B and brasserie on site as well as a boutique store for gifts etc,
