And I need to tell you about this wonderful town and update an older post on it with new text and links, This will be in my black and white series,no pictures, It will be sort of an introduction to the City, Therefore, let me tell you a bit on this is Chatou !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I
Chatou is in my old Yvelines dept 78 in the Île de France region of my belle France, This City is a world apart home of the impressionists painters of fame, The City is just 10 km from Paris, bordering the Seine river, and 14 km from Versailles, The main roads here are along avenue du Maréchal Foch , A86 by the Seine ,and then the D186 (old N186) passing by Le Vésinet and Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Also, the D321 that connects Carriéres-sur-Seine to Croissy-sur-Seine. The town is service by the RER A at the Gare de Chatou connecting with Paris.
In 1878, Camille Perier’s villa was bought by the town and became the town hall. A campanile was added in 1879 to this new town hall. The Maison Levanneur house is opposite the house Fournaise. Frequented in particular by Maurice de Vlaminck and André Derain. Until 2017, it houses the National Center Edition Art Image (CNEAI) Since 2018, the Maison Levanneur is welcoming a contemporary art gallery La Galerie Bessieres which exhibits international artists including among others Shawn Huckins, Stephen Ormandy or Christopher Kuhn. The Maison Fournaise is a former taverns-hotel from the 19C, it now houses a restaurant again and the municipal museum which retains collections on the history of the site and the canoeing, one of the first modern leisure on the water. Many artists attended this place, including Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, Berthe Morisot, Édouard Manet, Guy de Maupassant…The Notre-Dame Church is a Romanesque church in limestone from the 13C, built on the site of the first church of Chatou built in wood in the 11C. From this initial building, only the bell tower and the bedside remain
A bit of history I like. The place exists since the gallo-roman times, and from the 6C there was a village here. After many hand changes and lordship it came to the end of the 19C , its most famous claim. The
Impressionist painters and then the Fauvism were interested in the town. The last Merovingian kings have a royal home at Aupec Abbey (Le Pecq). An act of Bertefrid Bishop of Amiens concerning the foundation of the Corbie monastery is made at the “palace” of Chatou in 663; It is signed among others by Saint Renobert bishop of Bayeux. In 704 Childebert III gave the monks of the Abbey of Aupec the land of Aupec and its outbuildings. It is likely that Chatou is one of them. From the 9C, the abbeys and lordships of Chatou and Croissy appeared on the edge of the woods of Vésinet and on the banks of the Seine. Thus, almost at the same time, the villages of Chato (Chatou), Crociacico (Croissy) and Mons Texonis (Montesson) are formed. In titles of 1050 and 1114, Chatou and Montesson are qualified as cities. The old archives indicate that the church of Chatou which dates from the 12C is a cure provided with a vicar and that the city is fortified in 1360, Montesson is separated from Chatou. In 1775, Henri Bertin bought the seigneury of Chatou to Monsieur d’Allard. He restores the Château-Vieux, and built on the soufflot plains, the Nymphée of Chatou and also built a second castle, which was destroyed in 1910. Henri Bertin is the last lord of Chatou,
