Let me tell you a bit about Fouesnant, in the Finistére dept 29 of my lovely Bretagne and in my belle France. As the coasts around here are all wonderful. There is so much to see in architecture and history, We made the best of the day and visited this new town in my world map. We went into the coastal area of Beg Meil and found more beautiful spots, Therefore, let me tell you again about Beg Meil, Fouesnant, and a lot more !!! Hope you enjoy it as I,
Beg Meil is part of the town of Fouesnant , located on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a renowned seaside resort. Beg Meil is a peninsula, surrounded in the east by the bay of the forest and in the south by the Atlantic Ocean, of the town Fouesnant-les Glénan, which gave its name to a hamlet, as well as to the pointe de Beg Meil, located at the southeast end of this peninsula.
Fouesnant is located about 15 km from Pont-l’Abbé, Quimper and Concarneau, and benefiting from one of the most extensive coast in Finistère. With Bénodet and the La Forêt-Fouesnant,(see posts) now forms the “Breton Riviera”, a new tourist nomination, Finally, Fouesnant has a large island ensemble: the Glénan archipelago, a set of islets located about 15 km south of the Pointe de Mousterlin which are part of the town, Towards the east, the coast is cut into coves inaccessible at high tide. Hence the usefulness of a coastal path which serves these small pearls following the top of the cliff, via meanders drawn in the shrub flora. Fouesnant-les Glénan benefits from the “Bleu Pavilion” label, awarded since 2014 to five of its beaches: Man Coat Clevarec, Cap-Coz, Kerler, Kerambigorn and Saint-Nicolas des Glénan
The La Casa Pépé restaurant is located at 5, Chemin de Kervastard in Beg Meil section of Fouesnant, Tifenn and Thomas opened their Casa Pépé in June 2018. With their burgers, their fish and chips, salads and nuggets all “Homemade”.

There the team is at the top. Good welcome, home cooking with good products, generous portion. The dishes are diverse each days with flavors and textures that explode in the mouth, The owners are graduate chiefs in Fish n’chips and Burgers offer you homemade, with fresh and local products, from the aperitif to the dessert dessert. I had a great fish and chips, salads, with a fondant du chocolat and vainilla ice cream all down with a bottle of Domaine Moulin de Serjeux muscadet sur lie white. This is a must to visit, we will for sure soon. Wonderful folks ,great cooking, and fair prices, tops.

Other things to see here are the Chapelle Sainte-Anne ,route de Sainte Anne) ,the story goes that around 1680, Sainte Anne would have appeared in the middle of August in a winter landscape, the snow falling despite a blue sky, requiring the construction of a chapel at this location with the financial help of faithful on an old site of gatherings and pardings very frequented by sailors. On August 25, 1698 were blessing two bells on the Sainte-Anne Chapel, The chapel was rebuilt from October 14, 1753 , Near the enclosure, there is a devotion fountain and its basin. Pardon solidly anchored in tradition is celebrated there every year, following Sainte-Anne (July 26). The Chapelle Saint-Sébastien built in the 15C and located near the White Sea, it retains elements of an earlier construction from the 12C, in particular a small romance style window. Its facade is supported by two foothills and the door of its facade is slightly offset to the right. It has a finely sculpted bog 15C . Its frame resembles that of an ordinary barn. A statue of Saint Sébastien, the body pierced with eleven arrows still in place, probably dates from the 16C. The choir is closed by a communion table with two flights of thirteen balusters each. The Chapelle de Kerbader ,dates from the 18C, replacing an older chapel of the 16C. It was partly the theater of the Nédelec affair. Disappected for worship, the chapel and its plaster are the place of various cultural events organized by the “Association of Friends of Kerbader” There are, also ,seven cross and calvaries identified at Fouesnant , The Ponds et Bois de Penfoulic (natural site protected by the coastal conservatory). The “Maison des Marais de Penfoulic” was restored in 1991. In the forest of Penfoulic is the “giraffe tree”, a tree classified as remarkable whose silhouette is reminiscent of a giraffe; The writer Marcel Proust stayed there from September 7 to October 27, 1895, in the company of the musician of Venezuelan origin Reynaldo Hahn staying at the Rousseau pension, then at the Fermon hotel, built in 1886. He will write the novel Jean Santeuil, First sketch of À la recherche du temps perdu (reseach for lost time,,,,)
A bit of history I like tell us that in the 13C, Fouesnant was an important barony, the seat of which was in Bréhoulou, and above all a châtellenie falling directly from the Duke of Brittany. Eudon (Eudes) de Fouesnant had a chapel built in Bénodet in 1231, on the territory of the old parish of Perguet, and dedicated it to Saint Thomas de Canterbury; The Fouesnant family, whose elders from father to son are banner knights, is then one of the main noble families of Cornwall. As early as 1382, the Châtellenie of Fouesnant, was conceded by Duke Jean III de Monfort, to Jeanne de Retz daughter of Gérard V de Retz, who died without posterity. Fouesnant then passed through the possession of the Dukes of Brittany and the title of Lord of Fouesnant was no longer worn. The revolt of Fouesnant in 1792 against the revolutionary government of the Legislative Assembly was also known as the Nédellec affair by the name of its chief, is considered a prelude to the Chouannerie. Alain Nédellec was taken five months later, sentenced to death by the Criminal Court of Finistère on March 16, 1793 and guillotined in Quimper on March 20, 1793. He was the first to be guillotined in this City, In 1807, several English ships wet in the Glénan archipelago and harass the nearby coast. On the night of January 22 to 23, 1807, Beg Meil’s battery was attacked by sixty English. The assault causes the death of the commander of the fort, but the English are repelled. In February, English rods fly cattle on Saint-Nicolas Island and in July the Le Vétéran, armed with 80 cannons, commanded by Jérôme Bonaparte, chased in the bay of the forest by the squadron of Admiral Keith, must take refuge in Concarneau. In January 1813, an English corsair ship, Strennous, wet in Glénan and attack of Concarneau’s rowboats, Fouesnant cedes by the law of July 24, 1873 part of its territory, which becomes the town of the la forêt, now the La Forêt-Fouesnant.
