The Church Saint Thomas Becket located at Quai Commandant l’Herminier is a primitive church, a stately chapel built by the Count Eude of Fouesnant in the 12C. He dedicated the monument to Thomas Becket, an archbishop of Cantorbéry who was assassinated in his cathedral in 1170 by the supporters of King Henri II of England then canonized only three years later in 1173. The chapel was made up of a nave and a small bell tower without staircase whose pillars delimit the choir,

The construction of the church was influenced by that of the cathedral and is therefore probably one of the very first monuments of primitive Gothic art in Basse-Bretagne (lower Brittany), The church was begun in 1873 but dragged until 1887 to finished it. The priory of Bénodet then remains independent until In 1802 where the chapel became a parish church.

The church was extended in the 15C and the sacristy would have been built in the south at that time. The nave and its aisles were fully rebuilt, some original elements were preserved such as the west door and the choir but the stones of the small bell tower too damaged are not reused. The church includes a nave of three spans who join the 13C initial choir.

From the primitive church, only the choir remains decorated with carved characters, precious testimony of the primitive Gothic preserved in Lower Brittany. Ex-voto boats adorn the aisles. At the beginning of the 20C, the statue of Notre-Dame de Bénodet, in polychrome wooden wooden century a showcase exhibits beautiful pieces of religious goldsmiths from the parishes of Bénodet, Clohars-Fouesnant, Gouesnac’h and Pleuven.

The current church therefore has an old one only the two spans of the apse ; these parts date from 1231. There are ancient statues of the Blessed Virgin and the Trinity, and a modern statue of Saint Thomas Becket. The Eternal Father holds the corpse of his son on his lap (16C). The Virgin of Bénodet (at least what remains of it) is placed in a low arcade. Ex-voto boats adorn the aisles.
