We are in summer, and we have boundless beauties in my belle France and especially in my lovely Bretagne ! I set out again to new territories in my road warrior mode of always that took me to neighboring Ille et Vilaine dept 35, I found me new places in beautiful wonderful back country,. My idea was to see old and new so I came back , and of course, found me new places to share with the world ! Therefore, let me tell you about the Church Notre-Dame-et-Sainte-Anne of La Ville-és-Nonais !! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of La Ville-és-Nonais was created in 1850 by dismemberment of the town of Saint-Suliac. It is 145 km from my house, 16 km from Saint Malo, and 59 km from Rennes, The town located for its part in the Côtes d’ Armor, and connected to the latter by the Pont-Saint-Hubert erected between the Port Saint-Hubert and the Port Saint-Jean, The La Ville-ès-Nonais comes from “La Ville aux Nonnes”, a priory of women depending on the Saint-Sulpice-des-Bois abbey (near Rennes). The abbaye of Saint-Sulpice was confirmed In 1161 by Pope Alexander III in the possession of the Sainte-Marie de Stablon chapel, located on the current site of the town , and it founded a priory there which gives its name to the village , In 1846 the inhabitants of the town voted their separation from Saint-Suliac and the erection of their chapel in the parish church. Their wishes were answered, and the new parish of the La Ville-ès-Nonais, whose territory was distracted from Saint-Suliac, was erected by royal ordinance dated October 19, 1847 and episcopal order dated November 1, 1847.

The Church Notre-Dame-et-Sainte-Anne, built from 1846 to 1854, in the town of La Ville-Es-Nonais, located on the edge of the Rance river, so named following the presence of a religious convent long present in the center of the town! The church, dedicated to Sainte-Anne, was built on the exact location of a 12C Romanesque chapel, which was dedicated to Saint-Marie-des-Sablons. This Frairian church was founded by Jean de Taillefer, archdeacon of Dinan and prior-rector of Saint-Suliac. It has retained its parish enclosure as well as its environment which contributes to the charm of this place. The exterior of the church also testifies to a sober and quality implementation which accounts for the neo -Gothic architecture of this period.
The former prioral church of the town was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, but after the foundation of the Chapellenie of Sainte-Anne, in 1646, it was looked at by the people as consecrated to the Holy Aïeule of Jesus. The new parish was therefore put under the same patronage of Saint Anne. This old church no longer exists; In 1846, the construction of the current church began, was blessed on May 11, 1854. It is a church in the shape of a cross. The confessional dates from 1868. It houses a painting entitled “Ascension of Christ” (19C), as well as the statues of Saint Mary of the Sablons (15-16C) and Saint Anne de la Ronce (17C).

The parish church called “Sainte-Anne-sur Rance” in 1847, had three models of ex-voto boats: the “Saint-Anne”, warship, Brig dating from the end of the 19C to beginning of the 20C. Six cannons are arranged on each edge, the Saint-Yves, a ship with three masts in square sails, from the 19C, a trawler from the middle of the 20C bearing the 223 registration and the name “progress”. To read also inside the church the magnificent lines written by Marcel Juhel, “The cult of sailors to the Virgin”, true proof of love, faith and devotion of seafarers towards the mother of the Lord.

Some of the other things to see here are the Port Saint-Jean, there are two bridges on the Rance river ; the Pont Saint-Hubert, (D366) suspended, 286 m (1957-1959) and the Pont Châteaubriand, (N176) in arc, 265 m (1991). Also, there are 3 manors and a calvary.
