We all love to tell about our escapades elsewhere from where we live. I found that weird, there is always something to see around you/us! I have found out already by stepping into my town with so much architecture and history to do a blog on its own! I like to tell about the everyday life in my beautiful Morbihan, lovely Bretagne, and my belle France. Oh yes of course, my vibrant pretty Pluvigner where I live for the last 11 yrs of my life. A town of now only 7,5K folks.ok ,I found me older pictures not yet in my blog and they should be, Therefore, here is my take on the streets of Pluvigner !!! Hope you enjoy this post as I.
The story of Pluvigner began in the 5C with the installation of Guigner, son of an Irish king, exiled with some Christian compatriots. On the death of his father, the prince returned to his homeland and renounces his throne to begin the evangelization of the Cornwall; where he was martyred in the year 455 by Hengist, king of the Anglos. The Bretons who settled in Pluvigner in the 6C adopted Guigner as a patron saint. In the 18C, some of its relics, two femurs and two arms were found. The wars of succession in the 14C, the battle of Auray and the fallout from the Hundred Years War caused serious damage to the land of Pluvigner. Destructions, looting, sieges leave the towns, the villages and the civil and religious buildings in disaster. From the 15C and 16C began a period of vast reconstruction of buildings but also of social and family reconstruction by census of Breton lineages from 1426. Pluvigner covers a large territory of 82.83 km² (almost the size of the city of Marseille) . The city center, and in particular the Saint-Michel district, were therefore very quickly an important economic and social life for the town. Many cafes and grocery stores animated the town and already created an animation and conviviality that continued today.
At the Place du Marché you will see the market! (see post) It is held from 8h to 13h. Only food market with fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, dairy products, pancakes, etc, Here is ,also our latest favorite bakery Saveurs de Pains ,an artisanal bakery and pastry shop, A bit of history tell us that in the middle of the square, you will be surprise to stop in front of a cast iron plate. It was the initial establishment of the well which is now at the corner of the young Pierre Ferrand, author of some acts of bravery, was shot dead by the Germans in front of the restaurant La Croix Blanche,(still open now hotel too) April 28, 1944.

The Place Saint-Michel was the old Saint-Michel pond that was located near the city/town hall and has long been a place of distraction. Here was the old tavern Poul Miké (later le Bar du Stade we knew, and now gone too) that was sometimes isolated by floods and was in charge of providing the population but also the prisioners of the gendarmerie (national police) , Transformed into a post office ,the old barracks was also known for a hair salon, Some came to skate in winter there, swimming was prohibited. Some came to build a few barracks there, they were nicknamed “Les Grignous” or snackers, Around 1955, the sports ground was installed, and across not far from there, instead of the current post office, the city gendarmerie was held. It was eventually moved on the road to Languidic (D102) at the end of the 1960s, There was the Chapel Saint-Michel it was on the edge of the Saint-Michel pond, formerly located behind the city/town hall. The Romanesque style chapel disappeared in 1894, We know that it had a rectangular nave, that the choir was narrower and that it contained a flat bedside. The two parts of the construction were delimited by a semicircular arc which rested on square pillars. The windows also had a Romanesque style. The Saint-Michel district will again be transformed; see post on the pôle culturel Le Stang, open in April 2024.
