I came to live and stay in the Morbihan dept 56 of my now lovely Bretagne. I have several posts on this City, my first administrative pole in the area. This area harbor is superbe we love it we come often and bring our visiting local and foreign friends to it, Today, there was no exception as had lunch with a former collegue to reminiscent of old company and job and friends afar and near, Therefore, I just want to tell you again about the port of Saint Goustan in Auray, part V !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
At the port of Saint Goustan ,you will find all good old world accommodation, great boating, and cruise ships to the outer islands, and plenty of cheers and bar, bistros, and restos which especially at lunch/dinner time makes you go back in time, romantic, nice, quiet, educated; great for the whole family. Its still one of our favorite areas to go out locally, The port of Saint-Goustan is a former fishing and trading port, located on the banks of the Auray river, which has become one of the districts of Auray. It takes its name from Saint Goustan, the patron saint of sailors and fishermen.
You will love its maindering cobblestone streets , you will see a plethora of shops typical of the area. You will love to climb the old Chateau d’Auray now in ruins ,thanks to the war of succession of Bretagne, but the climbing gives you a look over the town, the port area and beyond with magnificent views and at night very romantic! Over to the city center area crossing the old bridge or pont vieux , you will be enchanted by the valley where the Loc’h river runs toward the port de Saint-Goustan, connects with the Auray river before ending into the Gulf of Morbihan , The Auray river flows into the Gulf of Morbihan and is navigable. The length of its waterway is about 56 km (about 35 mi).

The Relais Franklin at Saint Goustan, has a nice American history twist with a plaque attesting to the landing of Benjamin Franklin and night over. The location was at 21 Place St Sauveur. Today, there is a new business there but the plaque stayed. The name of this wharf, quai Franklin is a tribute to Benjamin Franklin, famous diplomat, physicist and engineer who landed in Auray on December 4, 1776, to call on the French to support the Americans in their war of independence , and we did

In Saint Goustan ,the memorable, historical, and gorgeous harbor we come often and bring friends over to eat at the Créperie Saint Sauveur. great place, great food, good friends and reasonable prices, heavens. The visitors like it too, It has become our central foodie place and already know the owners even seen them shopping with us! Today was no exception my friend likes it too ! They now have open a boutique with all the products they use in the créperie!! Just next to it!

During the 20C, while the port of Saint-Goustan became one of the most frequented tourist sites in the Pays d’Auray and Morbihan, for its picturesque character and the half-timbered houses on the Place Saint-Sauveur, the large granite stones of this quay gradually separated and the circulation of water dug pockets behind the retaining wall. The wharf measures 220 meters and is surrounded by restaurants and hotels and hosts clearance sales, artist exhibitions, postcard sales, a merry-go-round, various seasonal activities, as well as nautical training activities , and cruises.

Saint Goustan was born in Cornouaille in 974, he later was kidnapped at the age of 18 by pirates who abandoned him on the island of Houat (Gulf of Morbihan). Hungry and wounded, Goustan contented himself every day with a piece of large fish that he had caught. And every day, this big fish was completely rebuilding itself. This is why Saint-Goustan is often represented with a fish in his hand. On the island of Houat, it was Saint-Félix who looked after him and converted him to Christianity.
