Curiosities of Paris, part XI !!!

Looking at my vault, found some older paper pictures of places written before but really need to include them in my blog. These are from my eternal Paris and brings back many memorable moments of my life. Nostalgia sets in and here I go on the curiosities of Paris, Part XI !!! I have added a brief description of the places,  but read my other posts for more information and pictures on them. Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Hôtel de Ville de Paris or city hall is the building that houses the municipal institutions of Paris. The first hotel was built in 1357 by the Prévost of Merchants Etienne Marcel, It symbolized the municipal freedoms acquired against the power of King Charles V. It is located at Place de l’Hotel-de-Ville, in the 4éme arrondissement or district of Paris. The Hôtel de Ville, was re built from 1873 to 1892, in Renaissance style, as it was burned at the time of the Commune uprising in 1871 ; it was extensively decorated almost identically reproducing the old city hall building of 1553. The Place de l’Hôtel de Ville, known at the beginning of the 12C as Place de Grève (name now commonly call the famous French demonstrations or strikes), will be renamed Place de la Maison Commune during the French revolution. The Place de Gréve was renamed Place de l’Hôtel de Ville in 1803 and it is a pedestrian area since 1982. Today, the Place de l’Hotel de Ville is a major attraction point for discovering the Marais and is still the favorite place for festive gatherings of all kinds.

The pyramide du Louvre done by the Architect IM Pei in 1988 has 21,65 meters high (71.4 ft) , with a base of 34,50 meters of side (113.9 ft) assembling 673 glass tiles and triangles of glass of 2,1 cm thick( 5.3 inches) that needed two years of study by Saint Gobain (glass maker) !! One of the greatest and by many THE greatest museum in the world, including me!. The museum was given idea on about 1793 under the French revolutionary government under the name of Museum Centrale des Arts de la Republique. it was later change to Museum Napoleon under the Empire before coming back to its current name ,the Musée du Louvre !!!. The idea was to centralised all the works in one national museum.

The Palais Garnier, is a national theater which aims to be an academy of music, choreography and lyric poetry; it is a major element of the heritage of quartier or neightborhood Opéra in the  9éme arrondissement or district of Paris. It is located at Place de l’Opéra, at the north end of Avenue de l’Opéra (see posts) and at the crossroads of numerous streets. The story goes that on a design by the architect Charles Garnier selected following a competition, its construction, decided by Napoleon III in the framework of the transformations of Paris carried out by the prefect Haussmann and interrupted by the war of 1870, was resumed at the beginning of the Third Republic, after the destruction by fire of the opera Le Peletier in 1873. The building was inaugurated on January 5, 1875. I like to brag worked next to it for two years!memories forever !
