Getting around Saint Malo !

I am taking you back to beautiful wonderful Saint-Malo in Ille et Vilaine dept 35 of my lovely Bretagne and in my belle France. I have written several posts on this corsair city by but was surprise nothing on transports ! Therefore, here is my take on getting around Saint Malo !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

Saint Malo has a whopping 83 historical monuments and 169 buildings on the inventory of national heritage. The best known are located in the old town or intra-muros (enclosed city). The city is divided into several districts but the interesting ones from a touristic point of view , me think are Paramé, IntraMalo, Château-Malo and la Gare.

Saint Malo can be reach by car from Paris on the A13/A84 or A11/A81 to Rennes and then the D137 (voie de la liberté) to Saint Malo. We do it now up the D768 to the D700/N164 to D792/D44 to N176 and finally D137 to Saint Malo, lots of roads but most on straight line for 160 km and about 2h4m from my house. Rennes is at 69 km and Paris at 405 km, Some estimated times by the city tell you that Rennes 1h, Paris: 4h, Caen: 1h45 Nantes: 2h ,and Brest: 2h30.

When I go try to park on street parking first by Place Rocabey near Rue Abbé Huchet, not far from rue du calvaire ,and the waterfront by plage du Sillon (see post), There are other spots with patience in town for on street parking ,many are regulated to 30 minutes free for half a day,and 1h30 by Naye.  We have tried the nice underground parking Quai Saint Vincent handle by EFFIA who does all in town ,with extra services like baby rollers and umbrellas. You have a parking relay Paul Féval, rue Paul Féval located at the entrance to the city, near the Saint Malo racecourse. Keep your day ticket which allows 5 passengers to access L’Express Féval, the shuttle for the intramural via the station in service until November 5, or on line 2 of the Keolis network (MAT see below), diverted to pass near of P+R. Access to the urban bus is at the Bois Herveau stop, 100 meters from the parking lot. Any questions go in town to the parking office or Maison du stationnement located at 7 quai Duguay-Trouin.

The city of Saint Malo is developing their cycle paths every year. The one located on avenue de Triquerville between the Paul Féval car park (see above) ,and the entrance to the racetrack, made in 2023, will be continued in 2024 to the carrefour de l’Hôpital. Ultimately, cyclists can reach Saint-Servan then intramural from the Paul Féval car park via a greenway (pedestrians + cycles) which will run along the racetrack, the avenue Coubertin and then take the direction of the quai du Val to at the ferries terminal. The cycle arrangements on Boulevard Douville will be delivered in June 2024. As part of the urban renovation project of the Parc de la Découverte (around the supermarket Intermarché), a greenway will be set up on rue de la Bardelière in the 2nd semester 2024. Some of the firms to rent bikes in town are the Association à Vélo Malo, Les Vélos Bleus, and Loc Malouine, again fyi.
