The Opéra of Rennes !!!

I bring you back to my lovely Bretagne. This time in the dept 35 of Ille et Vilaine and the historical city of Rennes!! I have several posts on this pretty city ,but need to tell you that is wonderful sublime to walk on it, so therefore, taking bits and pics from other posts I have decided to split and give them a post of their own, well deserve me think, Therefore, here is my take on the Opéra of Rennes. Hope you enjoy it as I.

The Opéra de Rennes was inaugurated on February 29, 1836 ; in a Italian room located in the city center of Rennes. It is located at Place de la Mairie, of which it constitutes the essentials on the eastern side against the City/town hall (see post). The building today welcomes essentially lyrical art and organizes some local events, such as the “outdoor opera”. Its originality is to be inserted in a real estate project including housing and galleries with market function and protected by a glass roof, at the back of the opera. Its other originality is to adapt to the shape of the City/town hall of Rennes.

With 642 places, it is one of the smallest operas in France. Mainly focused on lyrical art, its attendance is close to 100% , The current ceiling of the room was made in 1914 ;it represents a Breton dance with around twenty dancers in Breton suit and a couple of ringers. The painted decor of the so called poilus (as young men were called when WWI) or hairy salon show is the battlefields of the Great War or WWI produced in 1918, Initiated in 2009, and renewed every two years, the lyric work at the end of the season is broadcast live on the place de l’hôtel de ville or town hall square, as well as in several other places in the city and the region, thus making it possible to touch a larger audience.

A bit of history I like tell us tha from 1693 to the fire of 1720, the salle de jeu de paume du Pigeon, located between rue Basse-Baudrairie ,and the place aux Arbres (current rue Baudrairie and Place de la Mairie) is rented to the actors as ordinary location of representation. This room is requisitioned after the fire and the shows are transferred to the larger salle de jeu de paume du Cygne or games room in the swan, also called the Halle de la Poulaillerie, between the rue de Champ-Jacquet and the rue Fricassière (current rue de Penhoët). The place was set up in 1737 in the Italian dining room. The Poulaillerie room was in turn neglected in the middle of the 18C for the redeveloped game room of the pigeon. This welcomed the performances until its demolition in 1787. The Poulaillerie room then officially became the comedy room in Rennes until 1836.
