The Maillé-Brézé is a French Navy squadron escort of the T47 type, a surcouf class. It was baptized by the name of the famous sailor Jean Armand de Maillé, Marquis de Brézé. This is the third unit to wear this surname. Since 1988, it has been a museum ship accosted at the Quai de la Fosse du Port de Nantes, The Maillé-Brézé is first of all an anti-aircraft escorter, redesigned as an anti-sous-marin escorter. Put on hold in Lorient on October 9, 1953, and launched on July 2, 1955, it was admitted to active service on May 4, 1957. He is the seventh unit of a series of 18 squadron escorts, For ten years its missions led it to the Atlantic and the Mediterranean where it experienced an important activity. Between January 1967 and August 1968, it was resumed to be equipped with anti-submarine detection and control means including a towed sonar, characterized by his “fish”. Based in Brest, most of his mission was then supporting the strategic ocean force (FOST) , It was disarmed on April 1, 1988, with the Q661 hull number.

In the Maillé-Brézé, the crew and the marine officers were housed in collective positions, seven for the crew and four for the marine officers, the latter being distributed by category: two for the upper marine officers (WHO) and two for the subordinate marine officers ( OM). The captain of arms is housed in one room with another WHO. Another room is attributed to two WHOs. The officers are housed in seven rooms for two. The second commander and the mechanic engineer have a single room. Two other individual rooms were planned for two senior officers: one for a division adjutant, if the building is a chief of division; the other for a possible superior authority accompanied by its chief of staff. The commander has an apartment combining his room and office with his square.

It was given to the Nantes Marine Tradition association on July 1,1988, which transformed it into a naval museum anchored on the Quai de la Fosse in Nantes. On board, you discover its complete equipment, such as boats and anchorage, detection equipment and armaments as well as life locations. Between May and June 2016, the ship is used as an element of decor by director Christopher Nolan during the filming of Dunkerque or Dunkirk, which is inspired by Operation Dynamo, the evacuation of British and French troops in Dunkirk from May 24 to June 4, 1940, during WWII.
