This was not a plan visit but in my travels past by many nice towns like to have them in my blog, The town is located in my beautiful department 56 Morbihan in my lovely Bretagne region, I walked around town just to see and learn in my road warrior mode ! Therefore, let me tell you about the Church Saint Pierre et Saint Paul of Mauron !! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Mauron is located Rennes is 57 km. Vannes, the prefecture, is 71 km; Lorient 100 km away and Quimper at 161 km. To the north, Dinan is 50 km away and Saint-Malo at 81 km, it is 75 km from my house, the D 766 crosses the town, connecting Dinan, Saint-Malo, and Vannes. The town of Mauron is located bordering on the departments of Côtes-d’Armor (22) and Ille-et-Vilaine (35) , Passing by we took a off turn into city center to see this church which belltower was seeing from the countryside ! Nice !
The Church Saint-Pierre et Saint Paul shows the doors of the southern portal dating from 1523 represent ten scenes drawn from legends of the 12C. They are now inside. Different parts were therefore brought over time, the south portal dates from 1525, the frame of 1726 and in the 19C the church was rebuilt in order to enlarge it. The church is home to ancient stained glass windows in the apse The transepts were dated 1521.

The Church Saint Pierre et Saint Paul has remaining from the old church only the central nave and the southern porch. The Tour-Porche dates from 1713. The church was enlarged and restored in the 19C (1866-1867). The southern portal, carved with cabbage leaves and kings of the Bible, dates from 1525 and the sacristy dates from 1790. The 17C sculptures that can be seen on the door, represent in several panels the creation of the woman, the temptation of Eve, the murder of Abel, the Annunciation, the Nativity, the worship of the shepherds and other scenes of the Old and the New Testament. On the altar, we can see a painting by Maria Goretti, young saint in Christianity. In the sacristy, there is a painting representing the “Christ on the cross”, which dates from 1682. The church houses statues of the Holy Savior, the Virgin and Saint John the Baptist. Note also, that two paintings, dated from the 18C which come from the chapelle de La Touche-Régaut, are kept in the presbytery.
The parish church, dedicated to Saint Peter and Saint Paul, had the shape of a Latin cross, and belonged to various eras. It was about 36 meters long. The choir was five -sided, and its ogival windows with flamboyant mullions presented stained glass, where we distinguished the scene from Pentecost, the crucifixion of Saint Peter, etc.

Another monument worth seeing with more time is the Monastère de l’Action de Grâces or Monastery of the Action of Graces, founded by Virginie Danion, native of Mauron, in 1869. A painting of Alphonse Le Hénaff in the apse of the chapel: Christ Pantocrator, in 1870,
The story goes that Saint Judicaël built a monastery there at a place called Saint-Léry. The first historical quote from Mauron dates from 1152, The Battle of Mauron: August 14, 1352, six hundred Franco-Bretons (supporting the king of France Jean, protector of Charles de Blois), oppose the Anglo-Bretonne troop (supporting the party of Montfort), the place where the Battle of Mauron is engaged seems to be near the village of Bois-de-la-Roche. The King’s party lost the battle on August 14, 1352 ! On August 3, 1944, Gen Patton tanks entered Brittany as liberators to win Brest. The sixth armored division, helped by the local resistance, blows up the Nazis lock installed in the agglomeration, after three hours of combat. In 1214, the lords of Plessis accompanied by inhabitants of Mauron, lent assistance to king Philippe-Auguste. The former castle of Mauron, was the scene of many struggles during the wars of succession. It was in 1352, the year following that of the combats of the Trente (Thirty), and during the captivity of Charles-de-Blois. The castle of Mauron, still existed in the 18C.
