I am back into my best mode, road warrior! I am looking to find new areas not visited or hardly passing by for a more in depth look, and I am thrill to share it with the world! I came to see other towns but as usual drove by some nice ones too, this is the case of Visseiche with its 854 inhabitants ! The town is located in the department 35 of Ille et Vilaine in my lovely Bretagne region, It is located 38 km from Rennes, and 27 km from Vitré, and 164 km from my house. I passsed by it and saw the nice Church Saint Pierre ! Therefore, let me tell you a bit more of the Church Saint Pierre of Visseiche ! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Church Saint Pierre has three main periods of construction. The choir and the north aisle were added to the Romanesque nave in the 16C. In 1828, the nave was extended towards the West and the bell tower, moved to the facade, now surmounts a tower with solid buttresses which houses a gallery and the baptistery. These transformations are due to Father Boury, a native of the country whose name is engraved several times on his achievements. The arms of the former lords of Montagne adorn the gables of the aisle of the north facade. The altarpiece of the main altar, in stone, decorated with eight marble columns, is fitted with a mirror and an oil on canvas from the 17C and 19C. A second stone altar, with an altarpiece decorated with four marble columns and an oil on canvas named after the donation of the rosary from the 16C. It is in the collateral. The wooden pulpit from 1670.

The right apse of the chanceau, open with a large bay in flamboyant style, seems to date from the 16C. The only aisle of the nave was added to the north in 1655 and finished with the Chapel of the Holy Virgin and the Rosary; finally, in the 19C the nave was extended, and the bell tower, originally placed on the side, was rebuilt in the middle of the western facade. Inside we can see the remains of a glass roof once representing the Passion of Our Lord and occupying the main bedside window, today hidden by a large 17C altarpiece; a gallery or chantry opening above the sacristy onto the choir, and finally the fire of the lords of the Mountain, placed near the altar of the Holy Virgin, The brotherhood of the Rosary was erected in Visseiche in 1658. The Passion of Christ glass roof, dates from the 16C (around 1540). In the choir, on the Gospel side, there is an old lordship gallery with a wooden balustrade, from the 17C. The altarpiece of the main altar dates from the 17-18-19 C, it was built in 1638 , and includes a painting of the Transfiguration, the statues of Saint François de Sales and Saint Nicolas and an exhibition in gilded wood forming canopy above the tabernacle. The pulpit dates from 1670. The altarpiece (17C) of the Montagne Chapel includes a painting entitled “Donation du Rosaire”, and dated from the 17C. The statue of the Virgin at the altar of the Rosary is from the 15C.
The parish of Visseiche formerly depended on the châtellenie du Désert, which belonged to the barons of Châteaubriant, then to those of Vitré from 1542, and had the right of high justice. The chief town of the châtellenie du Désert was located at the manor of Rivière du Désert, in Visseiche, and extended over the territory of the parishes of Availles, Bais, Brielles, Chancé, Domalain, Gennes, Moulins, Moutiers, Le Pertre, Saint-Germain-du-Pinel, Vergéal and Visseiche, Jean III de Champagné were all three chamberlains of the Duke of Brittany, the last being also constable of Rennes in 1541 and his son Jacques de Champagné is represented on a stained glass window in the parish Church Saint-Pierre,
Other interesting monument to see with time is the Château de la Montagne, on the site of an old manor attested from the 13C and abandoned by the Hay des Nétumières family in 1784 in favor of the neighboring Château de Monbouan, the castle was built in 1884 ,and retains its interior decor.
