I am back into my best mode, road warrior! I am looking to find new areas not visited or hardly passing by for a more in depth look, and I am thrill to share it with the world! I came to Bain de Bretagne. The town is located in the department 35 of Ille-et-Vilaine in my lovely Bretagne region, It is located 40 km from Rennes, and 55 km from Vitré, and 123 km from my house. The text will be the same for exterior and interior to keep the unity. Therefore, on this new trip, let me tell you about the Church Saint Martin of Bain de Bretagne, exteriors !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Saint-Martin Church was blessed by the Bishop of Rennes on June 23, 1852, although the work was not completely finished. It has the particularity of having two bell towers. It has a nave and two aisles. The Church is built of schist, sandstone, granite and tuffeau. The bottom of the pillars is cut granite. The materials from the demolition of the old church were reused. The large altar is made of marble in different colors ,and was built in 1698. The Saint Martin Church has a total of three altars, dedicated to the Sacred Heart, to the Blessed Virgin, and a last dedicated to the Mother of Sorrows, raised in memory of the dead of the Great War or WWI. The chapels bore the names of the Blessed Sacrament, Sainte-Madeleine, Saint-Julien and Saint-Jean.
This Church Saint Martin was polluted during the wars of the League and solemnly reconciled on September 7, 1599 then resumed and solemnly blessed on May 3, 1789, It is a fairly large building, preceded by two towers and composed of three naves, with transepts and canted chancel. There are some modern works, such as the three altars, a white stone pulpit and painted stained glass windows. The old church located in the heart of the town, Place Saint-Martin, destroyed around 1850, had its choir separated from the nave by a triumphal arch flanked by two altars. The nave was flanked by four chapels, one of them belonged to the lords of la Marzelière and passed in 1677 to those of la Praye. The current Church Saint Martin was built in 1851. In 1876, the church was already considered too small, a partial reconstruction project was drawn ,and the work was carried out in 1892. It has a set of glass roofs from the 2nd half of the 19C. Its organ was added in 1879.
The leyend of Saint Martin tell us that Saint Martin born in (316 or 317 and died in 397, also called Martin the Merciful, was born in Central Europe, in what is now Hungary. Even as a child, he was attracted to Christianity. However, he was enlisted in the Roman legion by his father, despite his attraction to religious life. While traveling on horseback in the middle of winter, he met a poorly dressed beggar; Martin then cut his cloak in two with his sword, and gave the other half to the beggar. Once freed from his military obligations, Martin went to Poitiers where he met Bishop Hilaire of Poitiers. He then set off on a journey to convert his country of origin. He returned to Poitiers in 371 where he was proclaimed bishop by the people, then founded a first monastery. His new religious title did not prevent him from maintaining his usual pace of life, so Martin continued to travel. His remains were brought back to Tours in 397. The crypt where his relics rest was visited by many people, such as Charlemagne or Louis XIV. Saint-Martin is often represented on a horse or on a donkey (likened to the poor man’s horse). Very quickly, we compared the gesture to sharing the coat with this humble animal. Saint-Martin is celebrated on November 10 in several countries. The Saint-Martin fair takes place every autumn in Bain-de-Bretagne.
