The Church Sainte Marie Magdeleine would be a cemetery chapel from the 15C, enlarged in 1860 with materials from the old parish church which was in danger of ruin, going from a rectangular plan to a cross plan. The transept and the choir would have been built at this time. The nave and the western facade are the only ones that are old. The facade portal has undergone a major modification. The trumeau which divided the entrance door into two parts was removed and replaced by a lowered arch. The parish Church, Sainte-Marie-Madeleine or Saint-Théleau, is the result of a merger between two religious buildings during the 19C: the former Sainte-Marie-Madeleine church and the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours chapel. Since 1903 ,it is under Church Saint Théleau, Thanks to the restorations completed in 2020, its framework and sand pits reappeared.

The Saint-Théleau Church 15C. Sainte-Magdeleine is replaced by Saint-Théleau in 1903. The parish church of Landaul having been demolished in 1862, the Chapel Notre-Dame de Bon-Secours founded by the Kerambourg family and which was close to it in turn became a parish church in May 1863, after having been completely transformed by adding two large chapels forming crosses to the north and south. The chapel had been built around 1450. Fortunately, the beautiful western portal with bays in a basket handle has been preserved intact. The arches are decorated with foliage scrolls, taken under a large arcade in a third point with several archivolts surmounting a tympanum. On the gable rises a square bell-tower, posterior of at least a century, formerly surmounted by a stone spire and flanked by a cylindrical staircase turret. The nave dates from the end of the 15C. Against the north gable, sealed on a granite slab, are aligned the stone statues of Saint Barbe, Saint Isidore and Saint Marguerite.

A bit of history I like tell us that the castellany of Kerambourg belonged in 1300 to Henri, lord of Kerambourg, then to the Laval family who then sold it to the Kaër family and in 1350 to Jean de Guer-Malestroit (through his marriage to Marie de Kaër) ; in 1551 the lordship was erected into a viscounty for the benefit of Claude de Malestroit, who died in 1554, who was therefore the first viscount of Kerambourg. This viscounty was subsequently sold to Jean de Robien, 6th Viscount of Kerambourg, second son of Christophe de Robien, 8th Viscount of Plainte. The daughter of Thomas de Robien, 8th Viscount of Kerambourg, Julienne de Robien-Kerambourg, married Christophe-Paul de Robien, her 4th degree relative. All to the French revolution , (see post on castle)

Jean-Louis Le Molgat, rector of Landaul since 1778, refused to take an oath to the Civil Constitution of the clergy (French revolution) ,and, having become a refractory priest, (as thousands of others) went into exile in Spain on September 13, 1792 , During WWII, Landaul was the scene of events linked to its proximity to the fighting for the Lorient submarine base. The bombings of Lorient from 1942 gave rise to aerial combats above the town. On January 23, 1943, an American bomber, the “Beats Me,” hit by nazis fighter planes dropped its bombs on Kergolven before landing at Kéronic en Pluvigner (castle my town see post). The crew included eight aviators: seven were killed, only one, the radio operator, survived. His name was Charles Roth. After the war his family came back to Pluvigner, my town, there is a steele or stone erected plaque by the centre culturel today that was open in the present of the American family, Credit where credit is due and an eternal thank you.
