I am taking you again to my lovely coastal areas of my beautiful Morbihan and come back to visit Damgan. I have been by there several times, see posts, and this church stands out each time, I found me older pictures not in my blog that should be and here they are ! Therefore, here is my take again on the Church Notre Dame de Bonne Nouvelle of Damgan, part II !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.

The town of Damgan with lovely beaches and wonderful historical architecture give you once again a look on its prettiest monuments I like. Damgan is a peninsula located between the peninsula of Rhuys and the estuary of the Vilaine river. To the west, the Pénerf river marks the boundary of the town, the Atlantic Ocean to the south, the town of Ambon to the north and to the east. Damgan has almost 8 km of beaches (see post) ,great beaches indeed.

The Church Notre Dame de Bonne Nouvelle is a neo-Romanesque style built by the city in 1843 on the site of the old chapel, the condition of which was considered alarming. Significant work was carried out in 1954 to consolidate certain parts of the building which were in danger of collapsing.Several renovations later, lastly in 2018 left it in good condition.

It was during the first half of the 16C that construction began on the chapel dedicated to Notre Dame de Bonne Nouvelle or Our Lady of Good News, patroness of travelers and sailors. Originally, it was shaped like a barn because it had no bell tower and the ground was only dirt. Over the years, the building fell into ruin. It was in 1841 that a text mentioned the need to rebuild a church. The chapel was demolished and in 1843, on June 15 of the Feast of God, the blessing of the first stone of the new church took place.
The Church Notre Dame de Bonne Nouvelle built between 1840-1844. The latter had become a parish church in 1820. It has a square topped with a granite bell tower. It is in the shape of a Latin cross. Inside , due to the marine influence there are ex voto boats as thank you to the above one of them caught my attention, this is the pax ex-voto, a 3 masted small boat designed in 1944.
