I was back in my road warrior mode going up to the northern parts of my lovely Bretagne to see new towns! The search is never ending with the abundance of beauties around here. I came upon this town and it was nice again! Therefore, let me tell you about the Fontaine Notre Dame d’entre les portes of Quintin !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The town of Quintin is located in the Côtes-d’Armor department 22, in my lovely Bretagne region, only 16 km from Saint-Brieuc, and less than an hour from my house. Strategically, the town is at the crossroads of the routes which go from Saint Brieuc to Quimper via Rostrenen on the one hand and from Guingamp / Châtelaudren to Lorient via Loudéac on the other hand. I went there on my way back on the D7 then D700 and finally the D768 roads, easy rides !
The Fontaine Notre Dame d’entre les portes near the Basilica , located rue Notre-Dame, comes from the crypt of the Notre-Dame d’entre les portes chapel. Now destroyed, this chapel was still used for worship during construction work on the new church, between 1883 and 1887. The statue of the Virgin, in polychrome stone, is surrounded by angels and recalls the image of Our Lady of the Virtues, brought from Palestine by Henri d’Avaugour, brother of Geoffroy Botrel and his companion in the crusade of 1250, This statue is kept at the Basilica of Saint Sauveur in Dinan (see post). At No. 5 rue Notre-Dame is also the chapter house with its Renaissance facade, its richly sculpted door frames and its roof cornice reminiscent of the machicolations of fortified castles.

The Fontaine Notre-Dame d’entree les Portes, a 15C fountain leaning against an old oratory, sold as national property during the French revolution. In the 18C, the chapel was extended to include the fountain which, since then, has been located underground, accessible through a cellar window. The crowning was removed from part of its gable at the beginning of the 20C, and the sculptures were hammered. The preserved part shows traces of 15C painting surrounding the niche of the statue of the Virgin.
