I was on my road warrior mode again in my beautiful Morbihan and lovely Bretagne region of my belle France, I have written several post on the town, but once coming for lunch with friends and my sons needed to stop by again, Josselin is worth the detour ! Therefore, let me tell you again about the curiosities of Josselin, part II !!! with new pictures ! Hope you enjoy the post as I
The Château de Josselin was built between 1490 and 1505, taking up many elements from the Louis XII style. It is one of the peaks of the Rohannais triangle of three great fortresses la Chèze, Josselin and Pontivy (see post), which is the center of the village of Rohan, the nominal fief of the House of Rohan whose castle is neglected for the benefit of the other three. The Castle is since its construction, the residence of the Dukes of Rohan.

In 1822, the Duchess of Berry, on her adventurous tour, convinced the Duke of Rohan to restore it. Around 1835, Charles de Rohan-Chabot, tenth duke of Rohan, decided to undertake a proper restoration of his home, which was largely dilapidated. The construction site starts around 1855, and work continues until open to the public around 1930. The castle is presently inhabited by the 14th Duke of Rohan, Josselin de Rohan, withdrawn from the affairs of regional or national politics, and his family.
The Chapelle de Bénédictins aka de la Congrégation has a weird destiny after been built in 1702 , the bishop refuses to consecrated, and it was later used as a cereal depot until 1805. Later, it held public hearings and meetings, then a classroom, and finally a place of exhibitions and works of arts exhibitions as today.

The walkway known as the Promenade du Mail, Place de la Resistance along rue Lucien-Briend. The Mail measures approximately 120 meters in length and approximately 30 meters in width. The city’s war memorial occupies the eastern end of it, while its main access is via a staircase located to the west. The space of the Mail is delimited by a closing wall. A wonderful monument of the rooster, is here see my other post to know the full story. We parked by here!

The Le Feu d’Or souvenir store. Loaded with Breton motifs in celtic décor on a wooden house very nice! We used to come here and ate lunch at Le Guethenoc, right looking at the Basilique. Its a house is from the 15C !! However, lately we have found a dandy, see next post.
