Curiosities of Vannes, part XXIII !!!

As said, we come by here always, we eat here , enjoy it here ,ride boats here, and do shopping galore on many items yet I need to tell you more, I was by there again for the grooming of my lovable dog Rex ! I will tell you a bit more on favorites spots in Vannes, in my beautiful Morbihan dept 56, in my lovely Bretagne, and in my belle France. Therefore, here again the curiosities of Vannes , part XXIII !!! Hope you enjoy it as I

I parked by one of my favorites parking lots just overlooking the wonderfully beautiful ramparts of Vannes and right in front of picture, the Tour Joliette ; just perfect spot to see all the beauty of a beautiful city, Vannes or Gwened! Right in front you have the nice Esplanade de l’Ordre National du Mérite,(national order of merit) created by Général de Gaulle.

The Rue de la Fontaine is in the St Patern district. It starts at the Bd de la Paix and ends at the Rue Saint Patern / Rue Saint Nicolas. Saint-Patern is the Montmartre of Vannes! a very active district. Tanners, craftsmen, traders live in the half-timbered houses that can still be admired today on rue de La Fontaine . One example I always look up is at 1 rue de la Fontaine. The house dating back to the 1st half of the 16C according to the type of molding applied and the trace of the primitive windows. The shape of its fireplace, the spiral staircase and the roof frame confirm this dating. The house is mentioned in 1677 in the archives of the Reformation.

The rue Alain le Grand created through the former garden of the Saint-Nicolas hospital, now the Claret garden, according to the plan of Marius Charier drawn up in 1861, to open up the new préfecture (see posts). Connecting street between the prefecture and the Garenne gardens.  One nice example here is at 5 Rue Alain le Grand,(right of pic), This building was built between 1894 and 1906. It has a metal frame (Baltard type construction) and a T-shaped plan. of limestone (tuffeau), bricks, cast iron. Beautiful illustration of industrial art. See the ramparts Tour Joliette, and back of St Peter’s Cathedral afar (see posts).
