Curiosities of Sulniac, part II !!

The town of Sulniac is located in my beautiful Morbihan,dept 56 of my lovely region of Bretagne, and of course in my belle France. From Vannes you take the road N166 towards Rennes, take the Kerboulard exit, towards Treffléan / Questembert / Redon (D775), then at the Penrho roundabout follow the D183. I,again, found me older pictures not in my blog that they should, therefore here is my take on curiosities of Sulniac, part II !!  Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Saint-Jean-Baptiste Church is actually located at a village call Le Gorvello,part of the town of Sulniac. The current church replaces the primitive chapel at the beginning of the 16C built by the hospital monks. The church has been remodeled several times, Le Gorvello housed a Chaplaincy, belonging to the Templars, which cared for the poor, the sick and the lepers. At the dissolution of the order of the Templars, in 1312, the parish was passed under the control of the Bishop of Vannes. The Church of St. John the Baptist is built from 1523 to replace the chapel of the Templars.

The present Church of St John the Baptist , the nave is covered with a frame, which has abundant inscriptions. In 1547, a chapel was added.  In 1560, a porch and a second chapel are added. The Church is open, on its western gable, by a door in a basket-loop, with multiple moldings, under a brace bearing a high jewel. The buttresses that surround it are decorated with flaming pinnacles. The Church houses the statues of St. Mark and St. Isidore, the Patron Saint of the Laborers.

I like to include here the Le Gorvello Café, that has been closed for a while, However, when came to the region found myself checking it out as a collegue told me the owners were Americans ! And they were ; from Chicago, ILL and we had several pleasant conversations and pool playing, They, also, had on site a B&B lodging, They were older folks retired and I guess they stop the business and sold it, not been back since, The cafe is across the street from the above church so fitting to have it here for the memories of always ! My family below !!!

There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
