Curiosities of Port Louis, part III !!!

This is again in my beautiful Morbihan, lovely Bretagne and in my belle France, Once again searching for pictures found more that surprise are not in my blog and they should, I will tell you a bit more on the quant nice historical Port Louis with its church, citadel and beach to boot (see posts), The choices here are endless and always a thrill of visiting them again, worth the detour me think, Therefore, here is more of the curiosities of Port Louis, part III !!! This is the Grande Plage. This is an artificial beach made by king Louis-Philippe’s wife . This is why it is frequently nicknamed the royal beach. Before that, the beach existed with less sand and was nicknamed Grand Sablon. This long 200 meters ‘beach has a restaurant directly situated on the sand and a row of 116 bathing cabins., Access is through a door built in the fortifications.

The port of Port-Louis pleasure marina offers 450 berths on pontoons, including 50 visitor berths. Located at the entrance to the harbor, it is a port full of charm and authentic character. In addition to its architectural and historical interest, the port of Port-Louis offers all the necessary comfort for boaters! Yachtsmen on a stopover can now benefit from a comfortable welcome and adapted services. Open on the port by large bay windows, the new harbor master’s office has a friendly reception point as well as a panoramic terrace with a magnificent view over the harbor of Lorient.

The port Locmalo is very picturesque and part of the old trade on sardines fishing here. The port has kept its charm as a small Breton beaching port , As part of the expansion of sardine fishing and canneries between 1847 and 1848, development of the port of Locmalo, 1876 extension of the mole and inauguration of the auction in 1889. New poontons were put in place early in 2023,

The lavoir des Récollets or the Récollets washhouse were built in the 17C, and were originally a watering trough. It was covered and converted into a washhouse in the mid-19C. The wash house is fed by the Récollets fountain, provided with a reservoir. It supplied the old Poulorio watering trough built in doubt from 1839 to 1851, the basins of which are lined with cut stone. This washhouse is located near the ramparts of Port Louis (see post)
