Always by the coast and again a new town visited, amazing of the many wonderful spots that we still need to visit, easy does it, I will be telling you about this pretty town, we like in my road warrior mode ! Therefore, let me tell you about the curiosities of Paimpol !!!, and hope you enjoy the post as I
The town of Paimpol is located in the Côtes-d’Armor department 22 in my lovely region of Bretagne, and in my belle France. Built around its basins, Paimpol is one of the main fishing and pleasure ports overlooking the English Channel. at the western end of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc, at the bottom of the Bay of Paimpol The town is on the road D 786 is Saint-Malo 116 km ,Saint-Brieuc 37 km, Lannion 34 km, Morlaix 72 km, Guingamp 30 km ,and Rennes 142 km
The Port of Paimpol open all year round, 330 deep-water moorings, 24 quayside moorings reserved for visitors. Access via a lock. It has all amenities in the heart of the town, historic Newfoundland and Iceland departure fishing port. Near the Trieux and Jaudy estuaries and the Bréhat archipelago. The southern port front is today decorated with apartment buildings and businesses, built at the end of the 1980s and 90s. Part of the western port front has been little modified in terms of buildings since the end of the 19C and the beginning of the 20C such as Quai Morand. This port front has retained houses of character, and architecture beauty. The Quai Morand (quays) have preserved a traditional habitat, of which the Hôtel de Kerroc’h represents the oldest building, dating from 1793, having belonged to the privateer and shipowner Corouge. The port frontage of the Quai Duguay Trouin previously dedicated to wood and materials warehouses, was redeveloped at the end of the 1980s to make way for buildings and businesses. The South quay was built in 1872 and the East quay in 1874. In 1884, the East and North quays of the basin were remodeled and rebuilt. The west hold, known as the ‘Bréhat hold’, was built between 1889 and 1890. At the entrance to the Quai de la Digue, the carousel, a structure, which dates from 1930, very pretty and popular, we parked by here as it is a huge parking going at the end to the harbormaster’s house or Capitainerie.

La Plañch with a wide range of hours during the season, from 7h to 21h. On the menu: breakfast options, salads, sandwiches, poke bowls, croque-monsieur and even pasta, without forgetting artisanal pastries, sweets and pastries. It has a large terrace on Quai Duguay-Trouin, but also a smaller one overlooking the Goëlo car park. Recently open and we decided it was our turn to try it, Very nice welcome including our dog Rex, nice fresh food, friendly service, worth the return indeed, La Plañch at 10 bis Quai Duguay Trouin facing the port still no webpage,

My boys went just across quai Morand to the Adam glacier ice creams, wonderful huge scoops up to five, I had 3 could not finish it pic is half!, Vanilla, mango, and strawberry, My boys did load up lol !!! To come back for it alone, The Adam glacier was created in 2012 by Jean Marc and Anne Conan in order to offer Paimpol an ice cream service on its port. Everything is therefore homemade, and make all ice creams with milk from the Les délices de Claire farm located in Pleumeur-Gautier. They are part of Maisons Louis that count with 1 hotel, 3 restaurants and the ice cream parlor, It does have a webpage : https://www.glacier-chez-adam.com/

Other things to see in Paimpol are the houses at 24 place du Martray, rue de Ploubazlanec, rue des Huit-Patriotes; 2 place du Martray; and 22 place du Martray The Paimpol market takes place every Tuesday morning. It is located on the squares of du Martray, des Halles, de la Vieille Tour, as well as on rue Saint Vincent and rue de l’Eglise. The Chapelle Notre-Dame de Kergrist located on the road to Lézardrieux at a place called Kergrist, in the former town of Plounez, at the top of the cliff overlooking the Trieux. It is on the left coming from Paimpol, before going down towards the Trieux. It was consecrated in 1603 and modified in the 18C. Sold during the French revolution, it was returned to worship in 1807. It houses three altars and numerous statues, The Chapelle Sainte-Barbe de Kerity dates from the 17C, located in the former parish of Kérity, now a district of Paimpol. It is in this chapel that every year, fishermen from Iceland and Newfoundland came on pilgrimage to ask Sainte Barbe or Santa Barbara to protect them from lightning and all dangers. They, also, provide horse wagon rides around the port area in season but they were there today even in winter!! too bad did not ask for the firm doing this but they did told me was not usual at this time. If interested the tourist office should help.

I took the picture from the other angle but see the end house on the left is 2 place du Martray, and it dates from 1581 !!. The main facade still has two doors with sculpted jambs, inspired by crests, banners and moldings arranged halfway up on its straight legs bulged by a low ring at the level of the plinths, Above one of its twin openings, a window retains its complete surroundings: supporting stone, pilasters falling from the entablature, architrave, frieze and cornice, triangular pediment. A niche formed of four molded and projecting horizontal granites superimposes it, Amazing architecture and so good it has lasted this long !

Paimpol is famous for having been one of the major fishing ports off the coast of Iceland at the beginning of the 20C. Pierre Loti wrote a novel about it in 1886, Pêcheur d’Islande or Fisherman of Iceland. In 83 years, between 1852 and 1935, there were 2,644 boats and 65,000 sailors on board who left for cod fishing campaigns towards the Icelandic Sea from Paimpol and the other ports in the region. Paimpol armed its last schooners for fishing. cod in 1935, the adoption of motors from 1926 was not enough to ensure the survival of this type of fishing.
A bit of history I like : In 1325 the Count of Goëlo Henri, Baron d’Avaugour and his wife Jeanne d’Harcourt, ratified the donation made by Jean de Keraoul of land given to the Notre-Dame de Church (see post) to make a cemetery, which was blessed by their uncle Jean d’Avaugour, then bishop of Saint-Brieuc. In 1591 the English chose Paimpol to make it a place of safety, finding the port and the position of the town advantageous. Paimpol then belonged to the Count of Vertus Odet d’Avaugour
Paimpol train station is the northern terminus of the Paris Brest line coming from Guingamp, which is used by the TER Bretagne. Lannion airport is 36 km away, Saint-Brieuc airport is 37 km away and Morlaix airport is 82 km away. .
