Therefore, here again the curiosities of Vannes , part XXII !!! Hope you enjoy it as I
I needed to follow up so went with my boys to their favorite store ,Japanim, the mangas and figurines stores my boys are craze about, Each time here they load up , long time customers and now in a nice bigger store at 3 Place Joseph le Brix just across from Monoprix, and today was my turn to visit and pay all those Christmas gifts lol !! The store now offers over 12,800 mangas. A literary genre booming since confinement. It’s a low-key bookstore that only manga fans know about. Established rue Burgault since 2001,where they came to know them first and later move into a former 80 m2 clothing store, rue Joseph-Le Brix, in front of Monoprix (see post). The one business we have used sparingly gladly thank you is the Pharmacie Centrale at 1 Place Joseph le Brix ,just beginning of rue Joseph le Brix , The pharmacy has a wide variety of herbal medicine, parapharmacy, aromatherapy, medicines (homeopathy and veterinary medicines with prescription and without prescription) at the lowest prices. As well as the biggest dermatology brands like avène, la roche posay, uriage, bioderma, cosmetics and beauty like nuxe, caudalie, lierac, filorga, a wide choice of diet, hygiene and slimming products, baby products and mothers: first aid dressings, surgical masks, mosquito repellents… a pioneer in natural health and well-being, you will also find a wide choice of natural and organic products such as cattier, weleda, sanoflore aromatherapy, supplements food and probiotics, A real pharmacy with all you need in one roof ! This is next to Japanim, see above, Webpage : https://pharmaciecentrale-vannes.fr/
Above the pharmacie centrale and japanim was house in the former Hôtel de voyageurs dit Hôtel de Bretagne (still label on top front see pic above) later Hôtel Central et de Bretagne, corner with rue Traversière, A café was opened in the wing back on former Avenue Victor Hugo in the first quarter of the last century. The hotel was flanked by a cabaret on former avenue Victor Hugo, destroyed and replaced some time later by the hotel. The hotel was then sold to Monsieur Foucaud who set up his tire business there in 1927 according to the plans preserved. The former Madame Chauchet’s hotel also includes the following buildings, that is to say n°5 and n°7 with restaurant on the ground floor. The building no. 7 is older than the previous ones; It was built in 1872 according to the cadastral matrices. At the beginning of the 1980s, the building, at least in its later parts, was transformed to create a shopping mall on two levels: basement and ground floor. The upper levels seem to have been preserved as well as the facade.
At the Place Joseph Le Brix , just beginning of rue Joseph le Brix , a travelers hotel rebuilt on an older building appearing on the cadastre of 1844 and the plan of Vannes de Bassac of 1869, The former rue Saint-Yves, was named rue Joseph Le Brix in 1931. As a result, the numbering of the houses on the street changed, with numbers 1 and 2 then assigned further down to the east of rue Billault. The plan of Vannes from 1785 shows that the northwest slope of the street seems urbanized earlier than the southern slope established at the bottom of the ramparts: corner of rue Coutume and rue Méné, bottom of the rue formerly crossroads of Lion-d’or and of rue Saint-Nicolas: the ditches were only allocated in the 18C, and the gardens in the ditches were partly dependent on the bishopric.
Further, the building at nos, 8, and 10 rue Le Brix Joseph was built at the end of the 19C in the gardens of the old ditches used by the rampart, destroyed, on a virgin site until 1840, but built from two houses on the Charier plan of 1863. It was built in two close campaigns, due to this double plot: the first is before 1897,and concerns the five eastern bays. It was extended towards the west by three bays shortly after its construction on the site of this old house visible in a photograph from this period. It may have been raised by one floor in the early 20C. The attic floor was created on the attics in the 2nd half of the 20C.
