The Lesage property, birthplace of Alain-René Lesage, dating from the 16C, is made up of a set of two houses with a surface area of approximately 400 m² after restoration and a garden of 2500 m². The house was acquired by the City/town hall in 2009. This property located at no. 17 rue Saint-Vincent in the heart of the city, represents a historical testimony. He was a writer who depicts with biting irony the society of his time and the reign of money, which inspires a number of works: novels (The Bohemian Devil, History of Gil Blas by Santillane…) and plays (Turcaret, La Tontine…). He is recognized as one of the great authors of the 18C. His bust is erected in front of the Sarzeau City/Town Hall.

As an anecdote: One of the famous of Brittany was born here Marie le Franc which while study here went to Montreal Canada to teach French as well as newspaper reporter from 1906 to 1929. She later made several trips between France and Canada from 1929 to 1958 , where she start to published novels such as Grand Louis l’Innocent ,won prize Fémina 1927; Du pays Canadien , chosen by the Académie Française (French Academy)! ; Enfance Marine, that traces her life in the Rhuys peninsula here. A lake in the Laurents (near Montreal) of Canada bears her name since 1934. She received the order of the Legion of Honor of France and knight and then Officer of the legion in 1953 . From 1957 she lived in Sarzeau or at the retirement home of the Legion of Honor in Saint Germain en Laye (Yvelines dept 78), where she passed away in 1964. Buried at the cemetary of Sarzeau in 1965 , her tomb is near the memorial to the Canadians soldiers perished in the Rhuys Peninsula during WWII.
