Do read my several posts on the town in my blog, Hope you enjoy the post as I.The beautiful wonderful Douarnenez in neighboring dept 29 of Finistére in my lovely Bretagne and in my belle France.

You have the wonderful Port-musée,by Place de l’Enfer with real boats on display showing you the boating history of the town as well expos, and videos. right across from the harbor entrance and the pleasure marina of Port-Rhu. The Port-Rhu, a veritable conservatory of ancient boats, which illustrates the maritime life of Douarnenez. The Port-Museum opens again at the beginning of the year 2 000, with a more important budget.

The Port Musée was inaugurated in May 1993, is located at Port-Rhu on the old Pouldavid ria which separates Douarnenez and the Tréboul district. It took over from the former Boat Museum, opened in 1985 at the initiative of the local association Treizour created in 1979. In 1986, the association donated to the town of Douarnenez its collection of hulls collected since its creation and the museum became municipal. The port museum is dedicated to boats and men from Brittany and elsewhere. It has a national reference collection.

The port museum, installed in a former sardine cannery, has a collection of early boats, pleasure boats, fishing boats as well as a multitude of objects. The afloat museum, open from April 1 to the end of October, is unique in France. The 5 boats open to visitors can be discovered in the Port-Rhu ria, near Tristan Island. The pier was renovated in 2006.

At the Port Musée three subjects: fishing, cabotage and pleasure craft. The visit is carried out using films and audio guides. It presents various temporary exhibitions, on themes linked to navigation or the sea. These exhibitions are installed for a period of 4 to 24 months and sometimes created in partnership with associations. Activities, free on presentation of the ticket entry, are offered in the summer and during each school vacation. From mid-July to mid-August, activities are offered every day: visit to the history of Douarnenez and sardine fishing, meeting with former sailors to discover net mending but also sail tanning, seamanship, etc., as well as tastings of local products…
