Curiosities of Douarnenez, part II !!!

The town of Douarnenez is located 600 km from Paris, 250 km from Nantes and 25 km from Quimper, at the bottom of the Bay of Douarnenez, and is part historically of the Cornouaille. We go there on the N165 Nantes to Brest expressway connecting with the N765 going and back on the D 7 road into/out of Douarnenez. For info it is only 120 km from my house, I was just there again for the memories of always now coming back with my sons and dog Rex, Many beautiful sights but we came up with the main ones me think, As we left a bit late,we went straight for our lunch in our favorite spot there over the years, Therefore , let me tell you about the curiosities of Douarnenez, part II !!! Do read my several posts on the town in my blog, Hope you enjoy the post as I.

We came in straight into the place Edouard Vaillant, where the main bus lines converge and right in front is the Pizzeria Da Franco,18 pl Edouard Vaillant. The Italian natives family was very welcoming and the pizzas deliciosas! See the owner Franco head sticking out waiting for us and his wife did speak Portuguese to me and it was great !! I had the main dish of the day Lasagna, a platter of cheeses, and coffee expresso, all wash down with a Bardolino rosé Italian wine! My sons had pizzas and penne with desserts ,all good friendly talkative as we like it. One of my sons arriving in resto first below !  The RestaurantGuru reviews on the pizzeria Da Franco: https://fr.restaurantguru.com/Pizzeria-Da-Franco-Douarnenez

On way out we gas up cheaper here in the supermarket chain, our favorite is E Leclerc and of course it was the cheapest, yes 1.81 /liter of diesel or gazole !! For the sorry Floridian who boast of the higher cost of gas there, this is equivalent to 7.18 USD !!per US gallon. We drive !!!! The E Leclerc here is at rue Toubalan.

However, as said, we stop first by the pizzeria and this is at Place Edouard Vaillant a heavy bus depot for several lines including the useful 51 that goes to Quimper!  ,This is the place where the market in town is held on Mondays and Fridays all mornings. And when not, there is parking of 49 spaces here where we did ours for free.

Across from the Church Saint-Herlé de Ploaré (see post), you have the parc Laënnec, Where you will see a statue to René-Théophile-Marie-Hyacinthe Laënnec, He is the doctor who created medical diagnosis. He spent the last years of his life, from 1820, in Kerlouarnec village of Ploaré, now part of Douarnenez , where he died on March 13, 1826 and was buried in the Ploaré cemetery.
