I like to tell you about the new town of Guerlédan, but not let them fool you the best here is in the old now part of the new, this is Mur de Bretagne with a lot history of my Bretagne. Guerlédan is a town in the Côtes-d’Armor Dept 22 of my lovely region of Bretagne, and in my belle France. The town was born from the consolidation of the towns of Mur-de-Bretagne (see post) and Saint-Guen, which became delegated towns in January 2017. Its admintrative base is still at Mur-de-Bretagne. The Church of Saint Pierre built from 1873 to 1881 , on the pulpit, the carved panels represent the seven deadly sins. This church replaces an old church whose choir was built in 1623. The old church was restored in 1701 before being replaced in the 19C by a new church as today. The church notably houses a granite font and an eagle lectern which come from the old church, An organ was inaugurated in 2022. This romantic organ dates from 1903-1904. It comes straight from a private chapel at Winston Castle in the north-east of England. Each organ is unique. This is made up of 800 pipes. It is a real gem, of exceptional musical quality, which has a lot of possibilities to offer.
The current Saint Pierre Church has the traditional cross shape, and is built with Pontivy granulite. The entire church outlines the same Gothic gesture, from the arches of the windows to the abutments, which are fine jambs topped with graceful pinnacles, and to the smallest details: fleurons, dentures, gargoyles, moldings and foliage which notably adorn a charming little porch, with its two benches and its twelve granite apostles. Another set which almost entirely adorns the upper part of the bedside is truly remarkable; it is, at least the central motif, the arms of Brittany. The colossal crest is supported by lively greyhounds. It is certainly the sculptural masterpiece of the church. The slender 37 meter bell tower, whose gallery is a stone lace decorated with a lantern above the turret and delicate pinnacles. The arrow, openwork and serrated, is slender and bold.
The nave is spacious, light comes in abundance from the aisles. The lateral nave, on the north side, is butted by a series of graceful chapels. The transept and the apse are lit by magnificent glass roofs, well framed by their stone ribs. That of the bedside which always attracts connoisseurs is composite and traces the life of Christ and Saint-Pierre, Patron of the Parish. The other two which, by the choice of colors, are reminiscent of paintings by Delacroix, representing, one, the rehabilitation of Suzanne by Daniel, the other the blessed Maunoir, armed with his legendary white wand, teaching catechism to the locals, in 1646, by the audiovisual method. The altar and the stalls so finely crafted. also the pulpit on which he carved allegories representing the deadly sins It is claimed that some of these figurines had striking resemblances to the locals, and the furnishings of the sacristy, the gallery, the enclosures of the baptistery and the upper chapel
The bit of information is from brochures in the church , and most from the site infobretagne condensively translated as very little is written on it possibly do to the changes of towns as this was in Mur de Bretagne which is now part of the new town of Guerlédan.
