I like to tell you about the new town of Guerlédan, but not let them fool you the best here is in the old now part of the new, this is Mur de Bretagne with a lot history of my Bretagne. Guerlédan is a new town in the Côtes-d’Armor Dept 22 of my lovely region of Bretagne, and in my belle France. I have passed several times by it and heard about it from collegues extremely happy to have finally stop be, we will be back, eventually, This is wonderfully beautiful Lake of Guerlédan, Hope you enjoy it as I.
The Lac de Guerlédan is an artificial lake located on the one hand in the towns of Saint-Aignan and Sainte-Brigitte in the Morbihan 56 and, on the other hand, those of Mûr-de-Bretagne (Guerlédan) , Caurel (we came by here) ,and Saint-Gelven in the Côtes-d’Armor 22. It partly marks the boundary between Morbihan and Côtes-d’Armor departments of Brittany.

It has an area of 304 ha, 12 km long and 45 meters deep at the foot of the dam, Lake Guerlédan is the largest artificial lake in Brittany. Its formation is due to the construction of the Guerlédan dam from 1923 to 1930 on the Blavet river. It supplies the dam’s electrical plant, with a power of 15 MW, operated since 1946 by EDF. On the occasion of the emptying of the lake in 2015 for work on the dam, Guerlédan lake revealed its hidden and mysterious side to from mid-May, and for 6 months only. This period allowed visitors to discover numerous vestiges, the sunken canal from Nantes to Brest, lock keepers’ and quarrymen’s houses, ephemeral and atypical lunar landscapes, etc., for an immersion in the ancestral history of the Valley of Guerlédan.

The creation of the dam had the effect of flooding the Blavet valley for more than 8 km, leading to the submergence of nine slate quarries (the region’s economy since the 16C), slate houses and farms. It also eliminated the continuity of river traffic on the Nantes-Brest canal, by cutting the latter which used the canalized course of the Blavet at this point. Sixteen lock houses and 17 locks on the Nantes-Brest canal were submerged.

The activities and things to do here are big, will take me more than a post or even blog, However, I will condense as the most important me think, Bear with me please,
You have the Beau Rivage in the town of Caurel, With its air of a small seaside resort, Beau Rivage has one of the largest developed beaches on Lake Guerlédan bathed in a fresh water sea! Water sports enthusiasts will find what they are looking for there: water skiing, canoes, pedal boats, paddle… and it is the embarkation point for a cruise aboard the “Duc de Guerlédan” to discover the lake. This is where we came in and just gorgeous better than my pictures !

The Anse de Sordan in Saint-Aignan, A small cove nestled on the edge of the Quénécan forest, Anse de Sordan is dedicated to nautical pleasures and swimming. A developed beach delights young and old alike thanks to games for children and the rental of pedal boats and canoes. Catering on site, at the edge of the lake. However, swim at your own risk, no lifeguards,
The Anse de Guerlédan in Mûr-de-Bretagne,(now part of Guerlédan) It is located 2 km from Mûr-de-Bretagne, near Cornec woods, L’Anse de Guerlédan offers a beautiful view of the Guerlédan dam. The site offers canoe and kayak rental as well as a mountain bike station (12 marked circuits). To reach the shore and discover one of the rocky spurs of the Caurel woods, you can follow narrow stairs along the Departmental Outdoor Base.
At Landroanec in Mûr-de-Bretagne, After crossing the dike and going around the restored Porz Braz manor, you will be as close as possible to life on the banks of the lake. For fishermen, a pontoon is available. It is accessible to people with disabilities. Landroanec is also a place suitable for swimming with the possibility of renting canoes. However, swim at your own risk, no lifeguards,
Approaching the lake from the west is undoubtedly approaching it from the wild side. The Tregnanton site at Saint Gelven, offers visitors a choice of most exceptional viewpoints. Moors and gorse surround the thick leaves of slate which are very present. An exceptional fishing site, like the whole of Lake Guerlédan, a pier allows boats to dock in a small cove resembling a Nordic landscape.
