As I was out in my local road warrior ways to visit a town that needed to stop by finally (see post) with time, decided to come back to nearby Le Bono, This one have visited several times and many posts but these are new sites and pictures of this wonderful coastal town, For reference, Le Bono is located in my beautiful Morbihan department 56, in my lovely Bretagne region of my belle France. The town is located approximately 4 km from Auray and around 20 km from Vannes, as well as about 19 km from my house, Therefore, let me tell you about curiosities of Le Bono, part I !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
We first arrived at city center/downtown and park in front of the mayor’s office or Mairie of Le Bono. There is a pretty interesting couple statue here representing the former life of fishermen characterizing Le Bono from the mid-19C to the mid-20C. Nice !

Le Bono is nice. And we remember the memorable time spent here with my family , we were in city center/Downtown today and passed by the Le Petit Mousse restaurant for memories’s sake as it was closed do not know why. Le Petit Mousse is located at 11 Rue du Port Just before going town to the port of Le Bono.

As with all coastal towns in my beautiful Morbihan ,the development of fishing, the increase in the fleet and the population of Le Bono, the fishermen requested the development of the site around 1880. This is how in 1882 the pier was done along the Quai Jean Bart. Very quickly the construction proved insufficient but, due to lack of means, the bottom of the port was not developed until 1902. As for the alignment of the quays, it was not carried out until 1916. In 1985, the town of Le Bono decided to build a quay in open water, Place du Banc Marie, in front of the existing slipway, and the digging of the river to the right of the structure to improve the conditions for docking boats. If the traditional fishing boats have deserted the Port of Le Bono with the exception of the Forbans replica built in 1991, the “Notre Dame de Bequerel” which can be seen anchored in the river opposite the pier, the pleasure boats have replaced them and make it possible to maintain significant maritime activity at the port, particularly during summer events.

There is a nice quant old bridge here which you can walk it but no vehicules allowed, It took the town to wait until 1835 for a bridge project to see the light of day. On May 22, 1837, an order from king Louis Philippe I, approved the project. On September 28, 1840, the Prefect could order that the bridge be delivered to the public. On December 3 and 4 1865, the bridge was heavily damaged by violent storms and traffic was prohibited. On January 5, 1869, the Prefect issued an order and a real reconstruction of the suspension bridge was decided. By decree of November 6, 1871, circulation was restored and the tariff of duties to be collected put back into force. The toll will be permanently suspended from January 1, 1879 by prefectural decree. In the spring of 2003, it must be prohibited to all traffic, automobile and pedestrian. The new suspension bridge of Le Bono was inaugurated on May 7, 2005. This structure, more than 170 years old, is one of the last two representatives of this type in France.

However, Le Bono needed more and the department of Morbihan, decided to build a new structure downstream of the old suspension bridge. Before and during construction, the bridge was called Pont de Kernours. The departmental commission, by decision of March 11, 1969, decided to name it Pont Joseph Le Brix , in homage to the famous aviator born in nearby Baden on February 22, 1899 and where he rests (see post). The construction work was completed on July 20, 1969. This is a metal bridge with inverted V-shaped legs of 262.20 meters in overall length and a stressed concrete access span of 37.80 meters in overall length. The 7 meter wide roadway is lined with 1.5 meter sidewalks. The central span between the legs of the crutches is 147.34 meters. Rising 26 meters above the river, it offers an exceptional panorama of the river and the town of Le Bono. I have been underneath and crossed over on foot and by car (see post).
