The Hyskeir took part in the evacuation operation of the Dunkirk pocket in 1940. Today, this pleasure boat offers luxury cruises on the Gulf and in the south of Brittany. The Hyskeir has a place of choice at the far end of the port, facing the esplanade. With its elegant line, its white hull and its varnished wooden cabin, this boat does not show its age. In May 1940, 340,000 British, French, Belgian and Canadian troops trapped in northern France by Nazis forces were evacuated to Great Britain. Nearly 700 private boats joined forces with the British Navy to carry out this “Operation Dynamo”. The Hyskeir was one of them, its varnish still fresh from the yard.

The Sisters of Charity of Saint-Louis form a female religious congregation of pontifical right. Its foundress, Mother Saint-Louis, was born in Paris on October 3, 1763. After the marriage of her two children, she envisaged a life as a contemplative nun. The Abbé de Pancemont, parish priest of her parish of Saint-Sulpice in Paris, provided her with spiritual accompaniment which directed her towards a service of charity. The latter was appointed Bishop of Vannes in Brittany after the Concordat, which allowed nun life to reorganize. He asks Madame Molé to come to Vannes to open a charity work dealing in particular with young girls wandering around the port of La Rabine in Vannes. On May 25, 1803, having become “Mère Saint-Louis”, she founded the congregation in Vannes of the Sisters of Charity of Saint-Louis for “the education of poor and abandoned little girls”. The establishments are confiscated after the anti religious laws of the trouble revolutions and force her to change countries and accept a harsh exile. She opts first for England and then for Canada. In 1967, the Sisters of Compassion of the Blessed Virgin of Saint-Denis merged with them ,The Sisters of Charity of Saint-Louis devoted themselves to the education of youth, to the care of the elderly and the sick. They are present in: Europe: France, United Kingdom. America: Canada, United States, Haiti, Martinique, Mexico. Africa: Madagascar, Mali, Senegal. The mother house of the congregation is located in Vannes at Place Théodore Decker.  The official Sisters of the Charity of Saint Louis of Vannes :https://www.soeursdelacharitestlouis.org/
