I came back to Josselin, with so much to see in my beautiful Morbihan, lovely Bretagne and belle France difficult to repeat, Our last visit here was in 2016 even if only 45 minutes by car from home ! However, we came back, (see posts) and got a taste of something new and wonderful dear to me. I found the Le Prieure de Clisson restaurant, and Spanish at the helm with great food know well we were ectatic ! Wonderful place , recommended, Let me tell you a bit on the Le Prieure de Clisson restaurant of Josselin, part I !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

For a bit of orientation, Josselin is located between the Rennes/Lorient Expressway (N24) and the Nantes-Brest Canal on the Oust river. Only 44 km from Vannes, 73 km from Lorient and 81 km from Rennes, and 50 km (about 31 miles) from my house. The town is named on the one who built the castle ; this Josselin was one of the sons of Guethénoc, Count of Porhoêt, who lived from the year 998 to the year 1040. Anecdote, the current owners are also call Josselin.
We came here often back then with the whole family including my dear late wife Martine and ate at the Le Guethenoc,(see post), right looking at the Basilica ND du Roncier. Its a house from the 15C !! However, as said, do to many things not back here since 2016, and things have change ! Especially, finding the Le Prieure de Clisson restaurant is located at 2 rue Georges Le Berd ,up rue Olivier de Clisson at the confluence of streets Rouelle des Ombres and Rue Saint Michel, We were walking the town and was too early to eat so we kept walking and seeing the wonderful wooden houses of Josselin (see post), As we walked thinking of going back to our usual eating place, we came upon this new restaurant and read Spanish tapas !! So we took a look and voilà ,think will be our central from now on !!!

In a former priory in the heart of the medieval city of Josselin, Javier and Paula will make your taste buds travel. They offer traditional cuisine with Mediterranean flavors with Spanish and Portuguese specialties such as paella and tapas. Rather its paellas since there are several on the menu with pre ordering ! The owners spoked with us all along the meal and great with our dog Rex as they have 2 ! It was sublime !! We had several platters of tapas from croquetas of ham Iberico , and rabo de toro or bull oxtails, tortilla with potatoes, patatas bravas ! 3 pijamas dessert of Flan, vanilla ice cream and peach half !! all down with a liter of house Sangria !! Loving it already !
A bit on the history I like, The restaurant was closed since 2015, but the previous owner got a kick with them and sold them the place, The new restaurant kept the same name and reopened its doors on November 18, 2017 with, à la carte, Spanish and Portuguese dishes offered by Javier and Paula. Javier, an accountant by training who retrained following the economic crisis. Alongside Paula, interior designer, who also chose to swap pens for spatulas, The couple took a swing finding a place thru the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland until finally arriving in Josselin but not by chance. Longtime friends with José Cavero, painter whose gallery is located rue Saint-Jacques, they pay him a visit for a short stay. That was it ,they felled in love with Josselin, the region, the cuisine, and they stay, Paula being of Portuguese origin, she will be happy to have her mixed cod-based dishes tasted, but she will be more in the dining room, at the service, as Javier not yet familiar with the rudiments of the French language. Which by now he has ok, He wanted to offer Spanish cuisine with a French touch, and serve tapas at all hours, Indeed the future looks good the resto was full !!
