And here here again went by it today in our gorgeous Rhuys peninsula or Presqu’Île de Rhuys. I come here often even if going to Arzon takes me about an hour from home by car. I like to tell you again about the stone megalith of the Cairn de Petit Mont of Arzon, part II !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The town of Arzon is in my beautiful Morbihan dept 56 and in my lovely region of Bretagne, and my belle France. I have written before on the cairn but will tell you more with new pictures. Briefly, a cairn is a stone tumulus (mount) above a burial raised by the Celts in Brittany, Scotland, and Ireland

The cairn de Petit Mont, houses a monumental ensemble composed of two adjoining cairns, built in several phases during the Neolithic era, and two dolmens whose rooms are richly decorated with engravings. The megalithic site of the Cairn de Petit Mont overlooks the Gulf of Morbihan. Culminating 36 meters above the ocean. From the height of its 6000 years of history, the Petit Mont cairn casts an enchanted gaze on Breton megalithic architecture. Proudly erected on the Rhuys peninsula !
A first occupation of the site is attested around 4,500 BC by the construction of a low mound underlying the cairn and the discovery of ceramics attributed to the culture of Cerny in a nearby habitat. A first cairn was built on this mound a few centuries later. It is 35 meters long by 20 meters wide and 8 meters high. It has no funerary structure in its internal structure, Around 4000 BC., a second cairn is built on the south facade of the first. It contains a passage dolmen. The floor of the chamber is made up of a large fallen and shattered stele-idol. Around 3000 BC., two other dolmens are built against the east facade. During the construction of the blockhouse, the first will be destroyed. The chamber of the second dolmen is square in shape. It is abundantly decorated with 12 slabs engraved with various patterns. The two cairns and the dolmens are enclosed in a double wall. The whole structure measures 60 meters (198 feet) in length by 46 meters (152 feet) in width and 6 meters (20 feet) in height. Awesome !!!
