The Kerpenhir of Locmariaquer !!!

And to continue my road warrior mode in my area I take you once again to wonderful coastal Locmariaquer Of course, this is in my beautiful Morbihan breton dept 56 of my lovely Bretagne in my belle France, I like to take you to a familiar place of great views and seafaring ambiance this are the port, beach area of Kerpenhir, Therefore, here is my take on the Kerpenhir of Locmariaquer !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I

Of course, always a good idea to stop by the tourist office either on site or online before getting to a new place; this is just at the entrance to the bourg or town on the D781 road. Even with all my travel experience, I never missed stopping by, there is always something new or updated.

Locmariaquer was similarly the capital of the Vénètes,(eventually the name for Vannes, capital of Morbihan) ; one of the five Gallic people of Brittany. They resisted the Roman invasion. In 56 BC, there was a great naval battle confronting the Roman galleys with the large sailing ships of the Veneti, which were above all merchant ships, As a tribute the local Bretons did a stele to the Vénétes in Port du Guilvin, that is just gorgeous, This stele is composed of two elements: a lec’h, a terminal, carved in the Latenian Celtic art style, surmounted by the reproduction of a Venetian piece. we see among other things a stylization of a seahorse, marking the maritime character of the Veneti.

I have a post on it and do shop here, another excuse to get more of those wonderful oysters and mussels of my Morbihan at one of our favorite spots Les Viviers de Loc’Ker (Ets Percevault), The oysters are world famous here. The shop is on the 37 route de Kerpenhir. They have a Facebook page : https://www.facebook.com/lesviviersdelocker

We have to make it a point to stop at the Pointe de Kerpenhir for its beaches, port of Guilvin ,and walks of our Rex ! We have a small nice beach here which goes into other names but the spot at the plage du Rolay is nice This pointe de Kerpenhir is wonderful with a very nice beach and plenty of picnics and parking along the all the beaches. We love to come here even in winter and walked on them for later a pint by the port.

Swimming in complete serenity since an exclusion zone for navigation has been delimited on the site . There are parking spaces along the road. Rolay beach, has just been fitted out to allow people with reduced mobility to enjoy the joys of swimming. A launching mat has been installed recently.

The coastal path that connects the marina and the town to Port du Guilvin ( the Vedettes l’Angélus pier ferry boats out to islands) will enchant you. In less than 10 minutes on foot, you will reach the Guilvin pier to take the shuttle to Locmariaquer port as well, The cruises departing from Locmariaquer are magical whether it is the shuttle from Locmariaquer to the ile aux Moines or the boat departing for a tour of the Gulf with a stopover at the ile aux Moines.

Facing this port du Guilvin and Pointe de Kerpenhir area you see two small pretty islands, The name of Grand and Petit Veïzit in the 17C designates a link with the vegetation. Beuzid, in Old Breton “beuzit”, means “boissière. The island of Petit Veizit bears a landmark in the form of a pyramid. The alignment of the pyramid with the bell tower of the Church of Baden, gives ships crossing off Port-Navalo, the road to enter the Gulf of Morbihan. However, my picture is from the Pointe de Kerpenhir in Locmariaquer at the entrance to the Bay of Quiberon and then the Atlantic Ocean !
