The town of Berné is located in my beautiful department 56 of Morbihan and my lovely region of Bretagne and in my belle France. The town is 28 km from Lorient, 32 km from Pontivy, 61 km from Vannes , and 54 km from my house ! This was my initial goal in my latest road warrior drives and a first for this town !; goes to show you have my work cut out to see around here, Let me tell you on the Church Saint Brévin of Berné !!! Hope you enjoy it as I.
The Church Saint Brévin, 16-17C.The parish church owes its name to a former archbishop of Canterbury who died in 762. It bears many dates, the oldest being 1666. The church is in the shape of a Latin cross and the western portal is surmounted by a square tower projection on four brackets with polygonal arrow. It is flanked by four steeples connected by triangular pediments. The lords of Pont-Calleck ( Pontcallec ) had a right of pre-eminence in the church: their arms once appeared on the south chapel and the chevet.

The construction of the ossuary in 1774 led to a widening of the western gable wall. The baptismal font dates from the same period, The high altar and the altarpiece date from the 18C. The altarpiece has in its center a flagellation of Christ, surrounded by Saint Peter and Saint Brevin. A Virgin and Child, known as Our Lady of Victory, occupies the top of the altarpiece. The church houses a statue of the Trinity, in polychrome wood, which dates from the 17C, An animal is carved in high relief on the cornice of the sacristy and dates from the 16C.

A bit of modern history tells us that Berné was the scene of fierce fighting between the Blues (Republicans) and the Chouans (contre revolution). The forest of Pontcallec and its castle were haunts of chouans and the blues hardly dared to venture there, The forges, of which only the buildings remain today, were installed in 1824 in the forest of Pontcallec. They had a brief existence since from 1837 they had to close, victims of competition from Spanish and Russian iron, less expensive than Breton iron.
