The Grand Hotel Saigon of Ho Chi Minh City !!!

I take you back to my visits to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, now wonderful sights and great friendly people. The only sad part, did not had my dear late wife Martine..waiting for me as.she would stayed very late for my return home. Ho Chi Minh City (previously Saigon and still a district is call like it today). My visits were always of several days and this took me to see many cities and hotels all over, however, my fav was the Grand Hotel Saigon ,lucky came here twice, Many souvenirs and good friends to last a lifetime; do not know when back but the memories will lingered as in all my travels. Again thanks for reading me since Nov 2010 in my blog.  This one was a surprise, never expected to visit this city nor this country but business always prevail.  After so many trips to Vietnam ,north and south, it has been a pleasant experience full of friendly people and good times.   

Tan Son Nhat International Airport, located inside the city, about 40 km  or 25 miles, and the one I have used in and out and several others in trips to other cities in Vietnam.  There is a new airport which was to be completed in 2020, but long delays now has it due for 2025;and again delay now en 2026. This is Long Thành International Airport, which will then receive international flights, Tan Son Nhat retaining the service of the national lines. Ho Chi Minh City has two major bus stations: Ben XE Mien Tay which connects it to the south of Vietnam, and Ben Xe Mien Dong which connects it to the north there are many taxi companies in this city, more or less reliable in terms of prices; very cheap but stick to a price. I have been given rides by locals there so other than a couple times on taxis all has been by locals in addition to flying out with them.

Luckily, where I was lodging twice on my trips to the city ,was right in center and walking distance to the best of HCMC. This was in the Grand Hotel Saigon in district 1; overlooking the Saigon river, and with stylish architecture from the 1930’s. It had spacious first class rooms ;first part on the 11th floor and second stayed on the 9th floor. Wonderful amenities with in house pool, gym,sauna, spa ,restaurants and bars as well as the Grand Café on the roofstop 22nd floor where I had some of my dinners too. I try them all except the Bar des Amis by the pool . All wonderful and great friendly service. The best part was to go to the top roofstop at the Grand Café and listen to live music in English and French!

On my first visit to HCMC stayed at the wonderfully historically and gorgeous Grand Silverland Hotel & Spa, on District I, a very nice old world hotel with all amenities and right in the buzzle of the city, close to many attractions. I guess been the first cannot find pictures of it!  Later on were all on the Grand Saigon Hotel as above. The Hotel Grand Silverland, is as a classic hotel as you can find, old look, and modern facilities throughtout, with a great breakfast,and easy walking to the market, muséums,and lively street life of the city.  It has a wonderful rooftop pool and resto with fabulous views of Saigon (now HCMC).  Pic below  looking from my room to corner going to Ben Thanh market!

There , my parents born in Cuba met and later on I was born there too. 100% guanche (annexed Tenerife to Spain on April 10 ,1496). I left Cuba as many have to Madrid, Spain where I lived for 4 years. Then, move to Perth Amboy ,New Jersey USA (living there 13 yrs) ; where I completed high school, became a US Citizen, learned to drive a car, and learned English. Afterward, went to the university in Florida, ERAU, and upon graduation decided to moved there to Ormond by the Sea, near Daytona Beach, finally moving North Miami, then Hialeah, then another moved to Silver Lakes division in Miramar, Broward county, Florida; in Florida I lived a total of 18 years. Finally , moved to France in 2003 ,Versailles call me for its royalty, and working in Paris was great. It was time to seek frontiers again and moved to Brech near Auray, Morbihan in Brittany , and later move to not too far Pluvigner. Total so far in France has been 20 years, and counting.
