The Church Notre Dame de la Gare of Paris !!!

These are wonderful monuments of my eternal Paris. Whether believer or not these tell the history and architecture of Paris and France that are a must to see while here, Indeed they are very popular by locals and tourists alike, I walked and drove by this church as are many glad to found me new pictures in my cd rom vault to show in my blog for you and me. Therefore, let me tell you a bit on the Church Notre Dame de la Gare of Paris !!!  Hope you enjoy the post as I.

The Church Notre-Dame de la Gare is located on Place Jeanne-d’Arc in the 13éme arrondissement of Paris. It takes its name from the district in which it is located, the Gare district.

The Church Notre Dame de la Garde is in the neo-Romanesque style. The semicircular arch of the door, the squat columns of the nave, and the three apses of the chevet are characteristic of Romanesque art. The vault, painted in 1862, depicts the Virgin Mary in majesty with the Child Jesus. The choir was repainted in 1953, The great organ built in 1863 by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll, restored in 1928, 1983 and 1984 The small choir organ, built in 1860, Very damaged, the original stained glass windows were replaced in 1969. In the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament (right aisle): The Adoration of the Magi and The Adoration of the Shepherds.

The neo-Romanesque Church Notre Dame de la Gare has few windows. Without electric light, you can hardly see anything in the nave. Round-arched arcades topped by a blind triforium and tall windows, pillars with foliated capitals: the classic of the end of the period. The facade of the church is typical of Romanesque churches of the end of the 12C: a central part surrounded by two lateral parts, the whole surmounted by a square bell tower topped by a slender spire. The construction of the church began in 1847, when the territory of the parish was in the village of Ivry. It was consecrated on November 11, 1859 under the name “Notre Dame of the Immaculate Conception”. The village of Ivry , on which the parish depends, was attached to Paris in 1860. It was following this attachment that the church square became Place Jeanne d’Arc (at that time the saint had not yet been canonized and no church could bear her name). In archival documents, it bears the name of the village of Ivry and of the Deux Moulins (which became the Gare neighborhood or quartier). A new parish house was opened in 2009 at 8 rue Dunois to replace the premises on rue Xaintrailles that had become unsuitable. In 2016, a group of Scouts and Guides of France was created in the parish.

Anecdotes to tell you are that in the film by French director Jean-Pierre Mocky, Un drôle de paroissien  or a Funny Parishioner (1963), the Church Notre-Dame-de-la-Gare is one of the favorite haunts of Bourvil, an expert in the art of plundering church collection boxes with soft caramels. On February 13, 1973, the singer Ringo (Guy Bayle) married the singer Sheila (Annie Chancel) in a religious ceremony in the church as it was the childhood parish of the singer, who was baptized there.
