And here I take you again back to my nostalgic sentimental Yvelines. This is a very small village off the beaten path of my road warrior trails, and worth a detour for its unique aspect of the real French way of life. I found me pictures in my cd rom vault that should be in my blog for you and me, Therefore, let me tell you on this is La Boissière-École !!! Hope you enjoy the post as I.
The village of La Boissière-École is located in the Yvelines department no, 78 in the Île-de-France region of my belle France. The village is located in the southwest of the Yvelines department, bordering the Eure-et-Loir department. The village is very sprawling, divided between the Basse-Boissière hamlet, where the Château de La Boissière is located and the access to the Olympe-Hériot school, and Haute-Boissière, which constitutes the heart of the village and the vast majority of the inhabitants. There are about 748 inhabitants, See pic of the City hall or mairie passing by, It is crossed by D71 road, which connects Condé-sur-Vesgre to Mittainville, and D80 road, connects Gazeran to Faverolles and Eure-et-Loir dept 28.
The Church Saint-Barthélémy,(Bartholomew) rebuilt in 1892 ,and in 1894 for the sacristy, on the site of an old church donated to the Parisian Abbey of Saint-Magloire by Hugues Capet and destroyed by fire in 1888.The church has undergone numerous alterations. The bell tower, partially destroyed during WWII, was restored in 1955. The church is decorated with stained-glass windows, at least four of which were created by the Lorin workshops in Chartres: the Calvary stained-glass window in 1896, the stained-glass windows depicting Saint Hubert of Liège, Saint Genevieve of Paris, and Saint Joan of Arc in 1912 and 1917.

The Church Saint Barthélémy main façade features a pointed arched doorway with voussoirs topped by a rose window. The side façades are punctuated by semicircular bays alternating with buttresses. The building is covered by a gable roof. The bell tower-porch is crowned by a pyramidal spire accompanied by pyramidions; the lower section has two semicircular bays with louvers on each side.

In the Synoptic Gospels, the name Bartholomew was probably Nathanael’s surname. Bartholomew met Jesus through Philip. Bartholomew is said to have defeated those who worshipped idols in Armenia, and after healing the daughter of King Polemus, he converted his entire family. It was Astiages, King Polemus’s brother, who had Bartholomew captured because of his preaching. Unable to make him recant, he had him flayed alive and crucified, possibly upside down. According to another tradition, Bartholomew was beheaded. Bartholomew is depicted with his own skin because he was flayed alive. He is also depicted holding the large knife used in his torture. His feast day is August 24.
Other things to see are the Château de La Boissière, built between 1853 and 1857 in the Louis XIII style for Baron Le Gras de La Boissière and enlarged around 1890 for Commander Olympe Hériot. The Olympe-Hériot Regional Primary School (ERPD), established in 1886, it accommodated children from the troops aged five to thirteen and is now a public boarding school for educational purposes. Horse dressage at the Haras des Terres Rouges is one of the highlights of Kévine’s equine education, for adults and children, experienced riders and beginners alike! La Boissière-Ecole, the Ferme de La Tremblaye, has been producing traditional farmhouse cheeses since 1967 with its own herd. see pic of city hall passing by it

A bit of history tell us that in the Middle Ages, La Boissière was a fief of the Saint-Léger castellany. Haute-Boissière and Basse-Boissière belonged to different families, including the Malebranche family from 1715. Through his marriage to Marie-Catherine de Malebranche, Dragoon Captain Claude Jacques Marie Le Gras, Lord of Bercagny , became the owner of the La Boissière estate and château. His great-grandson Gaston Le Gras de La Boissière sold a significant portion in 1879 to the philanthropist Olympe Hériot, who founded a military orphanage in the park in 1866.
